Of coarse this is speculation, but I also heard that all Honda engines will be DOHC K-series motors...If you think about it, it's really not that big of a deal...Yeah, there might be more potential, but it will still be a slow civic just like the Si's...They will probably just make a 150-160 Ex and bump the Si's up a little..The new RSX-S hp and torque will have an increase also...There seems to be a good chance this is true, but I could care less myself.
sure ... insurance will sky rocket, the civic will no longer be a great economy car and it will only appeal to a small crowd rather than the large picture ... not to mention it will be much more expensive ...

do 85% of the civic buying/owners/drivers care if the car is DOHC or SOHC? most likely no.
do 100% of civic owners care about great mileage, economy, and low cost? hell yea.

Even if they put the k20 in the civic, it might just gonna be a limited production special edition model to compete with the Spec V, Mazda 3s, Lancer ralliart, and Corolla XRS. 05 models will come out in about a month, so we'll see what happens.
Highly doubt K series will ever be installed in a economic CIVIC. It's not intended to be a sports car. They would have to discontinue the S or something and completly redesign the Civic I.E. 4 wheel discbrakes, upgraded interior, etc etc... Oh wait, I can see it now.... A true Honda Civic Type S-EX. Indeed... Not. If anything they might be smart and go back to the 1.6L engine. Or change some type of little thing just like the did with the '04s. So dream on guys.

Interesting... and about the K18... wouldn't you think they would have created that before the 2.0? You know what I would like to see done... a frankenstien 2.4vtec in a civic...

I really hope that the EX gets a K series engine. Traditionally, the EX model has been the one to get the slighly higher output. The lower DX and LX models have steadily increased while the EX model hasn't changed much in terms of HP since... I'm guessing around '93.
Anyway, Honda has plans to bring in a smaller car, so the Civic could move up market, which would make a K20 feasible.

just got this off the net
"2005 Honda Civic Line Up
- 08/05/04
There will not be any major changes for 2005 so you will have to wait for the all new Civic in 06. Honda will however be offering a Special Edition Coupe and Sedan for 2005. Features of the SE are to include a 6 Disc CD Changer w/MP3 Aux Jack & 6 speakers, Unique 15" Alloy Wheels, Rear Spoiler, and Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel. New colors will be Rallye Red for the VP Sedan and Tango Red Pearl for the Special Edition Sedan. Galapagos Green will be discontinued.
As far as the Si is concerned, Honda is planning on keeping the current version through MY05. For the next generation 2006 model, plans are to switch to a 2 door Coupe and address the issues of horsepower and styling. Honda is stating that the next generation Civic will "solidify Honda's Performance Leadership". We can't wait"

I really hope that Honda does put the k20 in the 8thgen civic. This is can be a feasible move for Honda because if they do put the K20A3 from the current Si, the engine will get good mileage and still run on 87 octane
. Honda needs to bump up the HP and become a player in this market again.
