RSX or Mazda 3
my girlfriend just bought a 3s. It's a very nice car very smooth on the road. Also has pretty good get up and go. If you couldn't afford the rsx-s then for sure go with the
3. (get the s not the i)

If they had a 2 Door version of the Mazda 3, I would've probably bought that instead of my RSX. Keep in mind that this car is basically a Ford in disguise... (Please note. I am not knocking on Ford what so ever. I love the new Mustangs. It is just the Focus, Exploder and a couple others I don't like)
Hell if I waited long enough I would've considered the tC as well.

The Mazda 3 is all original from the ground up and not a Ford in disguise!!!, its the result of product sharing between both Volvo and Mazda (both under Ford Global Manufacturing Partnership Program), its the basis for the new Volvo SC30 and the upcoming European Ford Focus (which is sad to say a league above our "Americanized" Focus here due to launch next year in Europe).
If you want outright performance and upscale ergonmics, go for the RSX.
If you want something that could carry more and much cheaper, go for the Mazda 3. if you have more patience, wait for the Mazdaspeed version due to come sometime nxt year!!!

Umm.....isn't the Rsx-S and Mazda 6 more of a comparison than the Mazda 3? Doesn't the Mazda 6 make more power than the 3 and I know the 6 is in the same price range as Rsx-S.
My g/f has a Mazda 6 base with the sport package. Its a very nice car, a lot more space than my S. The sound systems is much better in the 6 and puts my Bose bass speaker to shame. The headlights are awesome. Even though she has the 4cyl version, it has some pull to it. Its nice and smooth, the clutch is kinda hard though. The trunk space is huuuuuge! Its definitely more family oriented meaning that it has more cup holders and pockets to put stuff in which is good.
Now me, if I was to do it again, I would get still get my S mainly because I like to rev high and have that soft smooth clutch feel. Plus I don't have the need or want a four door at the moment. If you want something mainly to ahul people in or carry stuff around, get the Mazda, there isn't much leg room in the backseat of an Rsx-S. If you want more of a sport look/feel, get the Rsx. Don't get me wrong, the 6 is very sporty looking for a sedan but I think a coupe looks a little sportier than a sedan, JMO. All in all, they are both good cars that get the job done.

I would not consider the 6 because if i was going to get a midsize sedan it would be the accord over the mazda 6 anyday. I like to Rev to, a high Rev line is important to me thats why I am hesitant to buy the mazda 3 over the RSX.

The 6 has crappy gearing.
The 6 does not compare to the RSX-S more than it does with the Accord. If you want to compare all 3, the 6-speed Accord is faster than the rest... and yes, the RSX-S has the most modifying potential but this ain't about modding, it's about getting a new car.
I don't know what to think of the 3 but don't get a base RSX if you have a Civic unless you have an undying love for its looks because for it's price it performs like an overpriced Civic... which it is.

you can't compare a type S to a 3 gt. There is no comparison. The Type S is far superior. I would compare a RSX base to a Mazda 3 gt. Both have the same HP and similar weights. I'd opt for the RSX even in that case, I think its worth the extra few dollars.
In terms of build quality, the RSX base has great fit and finish and interior, It comes with racing seats. The Mazda 3 has drastically improved since the Mazda protégé. Its built very nicely, big brakes, calipers well protected nice rigid chassis and suspension components, and it’s got a multi-link independent rear suspension. The ABS system needs to be better protected.
RSX Base model
1) Proven chassis
2) K series engine
3) Potential, Potential, Potential.
4) Outperforms the Mazda 3 gt

2. just because it's the first model under that platform to come out, doesn't automatically make everything else a mazda. guess what, the platform is referred to as the "ford c1".
3. less is more when it comes to smilies and colors.

I was at the dealership 2 days ago looking at the new rsx and i dont like how it looks :x
