I think the WHP is more accurate with the HP...anyone knows what's the whp in mazda 3? It can be eliminate all the variables instead of just the # given from dealership.

Ford has over estimated HP alot... my friend has an RX-8 and they sent him a letter offering to take the car back because when it was first relesed they had over estimated the HP... maybe that or a heavier body?

If your civic is a stick, and the maxda 3 is auto, of course it feels slower. Autos take away usable power. Also, that was probably the lowest model mazda.

The Mazda is about 200lbs heavier and first gear might just be taller. But, I think it still has a lower 0-60 time than the civics. You don't feel hp either, you feel torque.

I test drove a Mazda3. With the automatic tiptronic, whatever you wanna call it tranmission. Its a fun little peppy car. If my Civic was to die, I would pick one up, with the options and price. What do you people expect out of a 4 banger. lease:

When did we start discussing Ford in this thread?

Seriously though, you can't really compare a manual car to an automatic car - an automatic should feel slower

As for car for car.. the weight of the Mazda 3 hurts it slightly
Curb Weight (lbs.): 2,826 vs (DX) Curb Weight: 2449 lbs

Who knows.. maybe you are just too used to your Civic

Ford is Mazda's parent company. Alot of their vehicles even share parts. The mazda 3 uses ALOT of ford focus parts.

Right on...mazda3 is a ford product pretty much. My girlfriend has the 3s 5 speed...its pretty quick, faster than my civic when it was stock. But i wouldnt buy it, i dont like the rear end, and who knows what kind of "mods" will do good on it

Isnt Tiptronic just used for Audi/VW? Dont other car manufactures have a different name for it?? Like, isnt BMW Stepstronic or something like that?

I did testdrive mazda3 5-door 2.3L and also civic si. I think they both have the same power. Mazda, I just don't like the clutch pedal, its position like in the middle, the salesman said it's like sport car's clutch. Kinda hard if I were to choose, mazda is cheaper though with the same amount of power and a little bit more torque on low rpm, but the feeling driving it is somewhat rubbery.

No not really, Audi/VW new tiptronic (real one) is called DSG, BMW has SMG for their M series and new 330s it's an option (almost sure). SMG is far beyond the lame Tiptronic in all the other cars.

I dunno, I see it as, "Hey, that Toyota has VTEC(VVTI)', 'That BMW has got some VTEC(VANOS)" I mean, all these valve timing shiznicks do the same god damn thing. So that would mean you can use VTEC on all of them equiped with it? Im just using VTEC as an example cause VTEC is said more than VVTI or VANOS, but....you know what I mean. Tiptronic cant be used for EVERY sport shifter.

Sorry, I just see it as a petpeeve
