It has a celica engine, but it is heavier. I have sat in one. It only has 2 rear seats and they can recline. I like them. They also have an optional supercharger to bump you to about 200hp. I probably would have gotten one over the civic also.

i like the car...it's really cool.........the only things that i don't like:
1. the car is fat, weighing 2900 pounds (not 3000)
2. dun't like the sliding moon roof.....NOT the actualy moon roof...it's pretty damn cool........the only thing that i don't like is the closure....it's the projector monitor..
anyway, it's a Camry engine, not Celica.....based on the platform of Toyota Advantis (JDM)

Its also a very heavy car weighing in at about 3000lbs, 160hp isnt gonna get you much.
considering the base RSX had 160hp and is 2690lbs
The tC's 2.4 has far more torque at 163 ft-lbs than the Honda 2.0. The tC without all the dealer installed options is also about 4 grand cheaper that the base RSX. The tC is also geared lower for better accelration despite the weight. In the one review its acceleration was compared to that of a 215 hp Lexus IS and was only 0.1 second slower to 60 and 0.2 slower through the 1/4 mile.
I think it's a pretty good deal but I would never buy a car during the first year it's made.
Very good point! That is about the only thing bad about a first year model. Toyota brags about the extremely fast development time of the tC just like Honda did with the 2k1 Civic - and it seemed like the 2K1 had more problems than usual for a Honda.

The tC is a bang for the buck. It is heavy but Toyota did a good job by making the chassis stiff and all.... so a suspension upgrade or atleast a sway bar can take care of that.
Someone mentioned 18's are dealer option, yes, thats true, the TRD wheels... and then there are the 19's that are also dealer optioned.
The car is geared super close. if anyone has ever driven a 5 speed xA or xB would know. it takes 2 shifts to get to 60mph. and 0-60 comes in about mid 7's... thats slightly slower than what a Prelude SH did back in the day. No one really noticed how heavy that car was. There are a bunch of heavy cars out there that can handle.... hopefully the tC is 1 of them.

i was thinking of getting the TC, i've had my ex since nov, 2000 so i was looking for a new car, but i figured why get a car that's similar to the civic, why not then just keep the civic? granted it's slightly better in terms of hp and accessories.. but why bother? Just wait and actually upgrade to the next level of car quality.

It's still a Civic.
It's still FWD.
You'll still be modding it to go faster and will still be slower unless you shell out big bucks on your overpriced Honda.
