To shift or not To shift that is a question
I am going to get 7th gen Civic LX in about a week, so now I am trying to decide whether to get a strick or an auto. I live in frisco and as you know there are bunch of steep hills here, would you guys advise me to get a manual for this area?
One more question which year 7th gen LX would you advise me to get?
I am so glad I found this forum, thanks for all the great posts

My dad lived out there for a while.
If you really wanna make it easy
on yourself I say auto.
Don't get a 2k1 anything.(There's a lot of bugs in em,I know cuz I have one.)
I suggest 2k3 if not a 2k2.
I don't know much about 04's.

it depends on what sorts of use you will give the car. if this car is going to be just a car to commute and get around, automatic can be easy. considering you live in san francisco, i seen the hills over their, so many and so steep
. i guess stick applications are for the people who drive fast, race, do those fast and furious stunts
.
i have an automatic and yes, it is boring as ****. i would've gone with manual but i didnt pay for my car so i really cant complain
ask yourself, what am i going to do with this car and which drivetrain would i be more comfortable with?

I have an auto - I didn't buy the car so I didn't have much say. The auto isn't as bad as it's cracked up to be. If I lived in SF I would probably get auto - I like driving my father's stick 350z around town but if I was in SF I would get the auto - if you're into a lot of racing at the track and such then your choice is obvious - stick - for normal driving in that kind of traffic and hills I would go auto! Just my two cents!

i got manual and i drive by san fran alot, the hills arent too bad as long as u know where your sweet spot is, just b4 u go place the clutch on the sweet spot and then gas and go. easy
before i got my '04 ex coupe, i didn't know how to drive stick. after a month now, i am the beast at it
. i will say to you the same thing that others said to me before i got my car "drive stick and you'll never go back to automatic"
. i will say to you the same thing that others said to me before i got my car "drive stick and you'll never go back to automatic" Depends how comfortable you are driving stick. Low displacement cars are generally more easier to stall in because of the lack of torque (can't really tell when the clutch catches like a larger displacment car).

First statement: maybe yours but not all of us with 2k1
2nd statement: agreed
3rd statement: it is the same damn car why wouldn't you know?
I went with auto and have no regrets. I drive my Civic for commuting, not for racing. I certainly wouldn't use a FWD car for racing! The gas mileage is just about the same for auto and manual so it's up to you (probably because of the high revving engine.) The auto is a little slower on the pickup end, but I'm not sure if it's serious enough or not. When I drove I manual civic I felt like I was going faster than I was because I was shifting and really pushing. If you slam the gas on the auto it will take off too, but you're not doing anything mental so it seems slower...
