yeah....he makes our job look like s**t.....one guy goes to my work asking if his miata need not to be aligned(he says a tech told him that it need not to be)....anyway i checked his alignment(the car) then it was way off(no wonder the steering wheel was off the toe-in)

To be fair to the mechanic, my understanding of it (which may not be right) is that the rear cannot be adjusted from the factory, so you can't do an "alignment" on it. However, the front can obvioulsy be aligned....

If you're just rotating the wheels or putting on new ones, that usually doesn't require an alignment.
If you've worked on your suspension, that needs an alignment. Sometimes the steering wheel gets crooked, the car pulls in a certain direction while driving straight, or the wheels are not parallel with the car; those need alignments
