don't waste your money unless you have a heavy heavy motor build or f/i. Even then it is a waste of money.

I'm pretty sure that it's not too bad to run the odd time.. Just as a little treat or something.. But I think it has potential to do damage.. At least that's what I've heard.. Something about the fuel being hotter or something and on stock internals it's probably not so hot. This is just what I hear.. Try to do a search if you haven't already because I think I remember reading about higher octane for our cars!

It'll hurt performance unless your built big time, and its a waste of money.

holy ****, 104? isn't that like nascar fuel or something?

and i thought 94 octance was the best for built cars

is it possible to get something over 91 locally? not for the vic but for other crazy modded cars. at like 76 or chevron or something?

They sell 114 octane or something like that in Stratford (a town around here).. I had to look a couple times.. They were advertising all their 100+ octane on their sign!

104 Octane would be a waste of time and money. Octane is the ability of your engine to burn the fuel. Your stock Si can't compress and fire the fuel so you will be wasting the extra fuel. Thats why when your car starts to "ping", its caused by too low of an octane. The fuel will actually start to fire before the piston is TDC (the height of its compression). I'm sure theres more to the theory then what I've said but that should be the basics.

the K20A3 is designed to run on 87 octane. If you where boosted running over 10psi than high octane would help make some high numbers on the dyno. Otherwise don't bother with the higher octane. I run 93 in my Type S.

You can buy 94 from one or two of the gas stations around my area. Otherwise its 93.

fighter jets and such use different fuel, like jp8. it's completely different from gasoline, and really not much like diesel either. you could light a match and toss it in a bucket of jp8 and nothing would happen.

i can find 94 at sunoco, they charge 10cents more than premium 92. but bp/amoco has 93, thats the best i can find normally.

I went racing last night and was on empty so I had to buy 100 Octane (it was the lowest grade
they sell)

JUst 1 gallon made me run slower by 4/10ths ... I don't think it helps...I usually run on 89.

Oh yeah some of the higher octanes 110+ are leaded too and will fukc up your catylitc converter.

From the wonderfull site "How Stuff works"

The octane rating of gasoline tells you how much the fuel can be compressed before it spontaneously ignites. When gas ignites by compression rather than because of the spark from the spark plug, it causes knocking in the engine. Knocking can damage an engine, so it is not something you want to have happening. Lower-octane gas (like "regular" 87-octane gasoline) can handle the least amount of compression before igniting.

The compression ratio of your engine determines the octane rating of the gas you must use in the car. One way to increase the horsepower of an engine of a given displacement is to increase its compression ratio. So a "high-performance engine" has a higher compression ratio and requires higher-octane fuel. The advantage of a high compression ratio is that it gives your engine a higher horsepower rating for a given engine weight -- that is what makes the engine "high performance." The disadvantage is that the gasoline for your engine costs more.

Conclusion
Using an octane higher then what your car can use is a waste because the engine simply doesnt make High enough compression to use that gas properly. So, If you were running FI or had altered the compression ratio on your car then shure you could take advantage of 104 Octane gas. as it stands on a Relitivly stock K20, 92 is the minimum, if you want a little extra spunk go with 100, but 104 is a bit much.

With the D17, you could probably get a little extra performance by running 89 Vs 87, but we dont make enough compression to properly use 91+...

On a side note, I use 87 exclusivly. and I autocross alot.
