looks like something that will take the place of the cavalier. The back kinda reminds me of the new gto, but I think it might be taken from the ion redline base.

The base cobalt will be a econobox. the supercharged one will be in competition with the Redline, SRT4, SVT and RSX.

American automobiles are rated better in terms of reliability than european cars(I heard this on a auto show yesterday). American cars had something like 18 problems per 100 cars where as european cars had 20 problems per 100 cars. Asian cars were at 11 per 100 cars. North American cars have really improved.
Even though this car looks nice and has a lot of horses, I still wouldn't get it. Its the same reason I'd get a RSX Type S over and SRT-4.
European cars problems are contributed majorly by VW and merks eletronic problems.
What's up with VW these days, how come there reliability has dropped so much?

I dont recall VW's reliability to have ever been all that great, (German cars tend to be over enginered, Ushually resulting in overly complex parts that break more often, but work great when they do work)

^Z, from what i heard from my friend, VW on 70's got a very simple machine that those people on 70's really liked em cos' they can fix their car themselves.........
u just need the usual tools.......take out parts...bring the bad one to the mechanic...they fix it, put it back, and it'll work..
but NOW....everything are electronic...EFI...etc........it's impossible to be like that again....that's why..

The only thing that may stop it up is the price tag assuming it's as high as the Saturn.

Imagine if Honda turboed its cars, these guys could never catch up.
Can a Civic with a K20a keep up with an stock SRT-4 in the 1/4 mile? I really don't like the fact the neon is stupidly fast.

I think you are the moron here. You obiously don't know anything about the cars. Now don't get mad, you called every one of us a moron, so we have the same right to call you one. Right?
Same engine yes, different body yes, but also different suspension, different interior Materials, and quality.
One thing you have to remember is that Saturn didn't really want to supercharge the Ion, but in a way forced to do so by GM. Saturn originally wanted to supercharge the Ecotec engine on the Curve (if I’m not mistaken).
Anyways the Cobalt has the same transmission used in the SAAB 9-3 Turbocharged. It also borrows lot of technology from the Opel Astra, especially the suspension and handling. The car has sound insulation technology in it as well to reduce road noise. You can’t take these two cars and say, “they are the same”.
The difference her is the same as with two kids. One is forced to built a car while the other does it out of his own. The difference is that the one that was force has lower quality and workmanship while the one that does it because he wants to have better quality and workmanship. You see where I’m going?

Aren't Saab's full of problems?
I heard a lot of horific stuff about Saabs.
I agree with Pharoh if its the same engine, its the same car.
Is the SRT-4 engine the same as the Turbo PT cruiser engine?

One thing we have to remember here is that the Cobalt has been dyno with 197 HP at the wheels. This means that the car has about 231 HP at the crank (using the 15% lost hp theory.) So GM underrated the car by about 26 HP.
Onother thing we have to remember is that when it was dyno the HP crashed into the rev. limiter. So if the engine was allowed to rev up another 500-1,000 RPM’s the hp will be much higher.

) but fair is fair.....Saturn Saab share dealerships as well. I have no idea how that works, nor do I care. The bottom line is that it's the same damn car to anyone who cares. Nobody gives a damn about Opel's or what the engine was originally made for. what people care about is what ACTUALLY happened and what was produced. If you go to any Saturn dealership they'll tell you that Ion...errr...Redline was made to compete in the Sport Compact world. The chev was made from the same gutts. Pontiac Sunfire, Chev Cavalier - Saturn Ion, Chevy Cobalt. At least this POS isn't a Daewoo.I drove the Redline and other than some pep it's a huge dissapointment with a large price tag to boot.
and Saab's do have loads of issues/problems. Leave the Sweedish cars to Volvo and let Saab continue building fighter planes.
From what I remember....GM got it's HUD (Heads Up Display) from SAAB's military aircraft division.
