New Mercedes set to challange M5
Linky
Looking to spoil some of the new fourth-generation BMW M5’s glory, Mer-cedes-Benz has issued its first official photographs of its upcoming 2006 CLS55 AMG—before the base model has even hit the streets. The new super CLS is referred to by Mercedes as a coupe, but with conventional B-pillars, it is more of a sedan.
Based around the same mechanical package as the E55, the CLS55 will keep the new 507-hp 2006 M5 (AW, July 12) honest with top-shelf performance and features to match. Power-ing Stuttgart’s latest autobahn-burner is AMG’s supercharged 5.5-liter V8 delivering 476 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque.

One question.... Does it come with a Manual transmission?? IF not, then its just some rich boys penile extension and I'm not interested.

I'd rather have an M5. the new M5 has a 7-speed SMG and a redline of 8400RPM out of a v-10!!!!! the current M5 has 100 less horsepower and can run 0-62 in 4.8 their new M5 is projected at 4.3 , so it beats the merc in acceleration and on 30-70 for rolling starts the M5 has more HP so it will move faster when while moving. Mercedes has been tring to surpass BMW for 20 years in every category but BMW has been able to stay just one step ahead of them each time.

I was pointing that rear end out to my sister because I noticed it looked similar to the one on Civic coupe's... The first pic looks like a Porsche...
Anyway, it's a rich boys toy. I'd take one if I were offered one, but I wouldn't go out and buy one if I had that kinda money.

Merks aren't my style no matter how fast it might be.
The car posted above has an akward shape.
Wouldn't you agree, buy a TL a-spec, slap a turbo on it, and we have ourselves a better looking car, a faster car and a cheaper car.

it looks better than the m5...the new beemers are horrid looking. however, as far as transmission, i dont think the m5 and new m3 have a manual tranny either. its something like the smg2 or something. its a synchromesh, kind of like in the new ferraris w/ the little paddles to shift. i think this new trend sux, but whatever...i cant afford the cars now anyway. i actually like shifting my gears at human speeds. thats where the skill of driving comes in.

I just about spit V8 out my nose when I read this....
mercedes does not offer a manual transmission in any of their cars. i'd take a bmw over a mercedes any day. also, i do believe that the m3 and m5 come with the manual as well as the SMG...at least i know the m3 does. the previous m5 was a manual but i'm not sure about the new one. the smg is pretty cool though, it would be nice to have both so you would have the option to shift or use the paddles.

I don't like either company that much. I find BMW has over flooded the market with it's low end "wannabe yuppy" 300 series and Mercedes are doing the same with the Kompressor. I dunno...I like the M3 and some of the AMG's are nice but all in all, for that kind of money I would rather have something else I guess.
