test drove saturn ion redline

well it was my birthday so for a present my friend took me to this test drive that he was invited to because the gm people said he could bring a friend. he is on some auto panel for the detroit free press. anyways i thought they would just tell us to drive around the parking lot for 5 minutes but they acctually gave us the keys, and let us go all by ourselves around a 27 mile course which i thought was very sweet. first it went around the gm facility then onto residential streets then the highway.then i got back and they told me to take it out again.

for being a saturn i thought it moved fairly quick and that its looks weren't all too bad. the shifter was nice, and the recaro seats were good too. i may be overrating this car since i haven't driven many really nice ones though. it was a little pricey though, alittle over 20k. it was a good time though.

they run around 14.7 1/4 is what the handout they gave us said.....which isn't bad at all. they said this was gm's attempt to get into the tuning market

The car reviewers are all trashing the Ion, but I'm not sure why. The styling is good, probably better than Corolla or Civic. Gas mileage is good. The interior is not as refined at the Civic, but the dent resistant panels are a good feature. I think it is a good start. If Saturn can make improvements on it, it should be a competitive compact car.

everyones trashin the ion because its a saturn. even if its a great car, which i believe, it will still take a while to bring saturns reputation up. not many ppl look at saturns wit respect. and as u said, if they continue to make good cars, then their rep will go up, but i still prefer my civic over saturn

RSDCivic will become famous soon enough
the big things that were "wrong" with the redline is the steering is supposed to be kinda bad and I heard there are a bunch of electrical quirks with the car like rpm's reading off on the tach... wouldn't mind takin one out for a spin myself tho

Not feeling the outer exterior but i'm loving the recaros and the supercharger.. but when i test drove it.. i felt so cheap afterwards.. idk why

but for only 20k.. its not that bad of a deal

it's funny how these domestic cars have to put all these bells and whistles on their "sport compacts" to actually get people to consider buying them...

I test drove a regular Saturn Ion and I thought it was horrible.... the steering wheel was shaped like the ones you find in a bumper car, and the brakes felt like it was not power assisted.
