there's some guy on www.houston-imports.com that was asking the Honda Sponsor Guy or wahtever would they be coming with a K20 engine in 2006 or whatever and he said best thing to do is talk to a salesman.

i remember someone posted a link to a article giving a insight into the 8th gen civic. All it basically said was that the civic si was going to coming back in coupe form and the speed issues would be addressed. They werent specific on how much hp or engine. So right now its all speculation. Dropping a k20 engine would probably be the cheapest way of adding more power to the civic. If i were honda i'd drop a k20a2 in the civic si so it can compete against the srt-4 and scion tc. Bump the type-s up to a k20a so it keeps its standing one step above the si and put a k20a3 in the ex civic. Temple vtec has a article stating that the 05 rsx type S would have a performance enhancment so that might be a clue to a hp bump. The ex can compete against the mazda 3 type S, the lancer rz and corolla xre. Then Keep the d-series engines for the lx,hx,dx too keep the environmentalists and gasmileage people happy. Well thats what i would do if i were honda, from a business stand point it'll probably be the cheapest way of being competitive. Because all you have to do is design a new shell and put in engines that you already make into each trim of civic and you have something for everyone. Plus you save a ton on R&D by just putting in the k series engines. Well those are just my two cents.

As of right now it is just rummors. I think the only reason Honda would bring back a SI Coupe with a K20 Engine in it, is so that it can compete with the SRT-4, Ion RedLine, Cobalt SS-Supercharge, and have it be a Honda.
But then again Honda has the Acura RSX to do that so I don't know.

I talked to the sales manager at the dealership where i got my car and he told me the American Si/Canadian SiR body may be discontinued, with the engine going into the top of the line coupe.
Common sense says no.
Civics are economy cars and Honda sells a ton of them. We are the minority..... no point of putting a sporty engine in a car just because the minority wants it. The Civic is best know for getting great gas milege and reliability and thats why they come stock with a 100 horse power engine.
If you want a sporty civic.... get an Si or an RSX. It would be pointless for Honda to drop a sporty engine into a Civic because the Si and RSX sales will drop and they will lose money.
So keep dreaming.

I just want the SI to look the same as the EX, like in 2000, the SI Coupe..
that is kickass, I wish they had made SI coupes in 03, I would have been all over it.

^^ Because on Hondas, a sunroof is standard equipment on certain models.
I see it as possible, but probably only for an Si coupe because everyone else still wants the fuel economy that Honda is known for.

good point
It's missing a *little* bit of performance. I've heard they're gonna bump the EX to 1.8l/140hp, Si coupe with some K series. The real problem is FEATURES. Mazda/Hyundai/Ford are starting to eat Honda's lunch by providing worse cars with more "stuff." People want ABS as an option on an LX, or factory xenons/NAV/leather/vibrators/whatever.

A civic with a K20 can still be a Economy car. Look at the 99-00 Si, still a Civic and still an ecoonomy car.
Definitely possible, and with the tuning they're doing nowadays to Civics it would be that much more powerful and economical.

by most standards a k20 de-tuned to even 140hp would have more than enough power, and a nice increase in tq for most ppl while still getting low 30s mpg, and all the LEV junk that the RSX's have haha...vibrators greggdogg
I think its entirely possible if Honda got it right. As mentioned before, a detuned k20a3 could be a very fuel efficient platform for the Civic base models while a k20a2 would be a nice boost for the SI. Both would help civic sales dramtically as both crowds would be getting what they are looking for.
SOHCs are way better at fuel economy than DOHCs. Honda would have to do something amazing to get Civic fuel economy standards out of a DOHC while having the performance benefits along with it.

Yeah but they could at least make some kind of supercharger option to give it some more power, like every other company has been doing. Is the honda civic now the slowest economy car? Dodge has srt4, saturn has ion redline, kia has faster spectra I think, and honda is way at the bottom. I know it's an economy car, but 100whp is lousy for a car in this day and age.
Well over here in Europe they decided to drop in the K series in the 5-door Civic as of 2004. Between 2001 and 2004 the 3/5 door only came with D series 1,4 or 1.6 litre (not counting the diesels and the Type-R). The reason was that the needed to fill the huge gap between the 1.6 and the Type-R for competition reasons. It's a cheap solution for sure. Engine is the same as the US Si (160 bhp) which is built in the UK anyway, just like the 3/5 doors. In Asia they did something similar with the sedan.
you cant just drop a new engine in a car and sell it. EVERY combination has to be crash tested, emissions tested, etc. It is a HUGE deal to have two engines as an option in a car, which is why you dont see two totally different engine models in most car lines (like a D and a K series) only a supercharger version or a stroked version with the same block (like the 4.8 and 5.3L engines in chevy trucks, same block, different stroke, same outer dimensions for crash testing certification, etc).
