The 01s had a little problem with the Transmission poping out of 2nd and 5th, find out if that one ever had that problem and if its been fixed (If its an automatic Never mind them) The 01s also had a recal regarding the headlings buring out the wireing harness, find out if it has been done.
Otherwise I dont know of any other issues that were common. and I drive an 01 EX manual.

Most important is ask to see maintenance records. Especially with an auto, you need to make sure the tranny fluid has been changed. That and regular oil changes, etc. Make sure it was well taken care of.

Mileage isn't bad as long as it's been maintained. Only thing is the 01 is the first year of the new generation, so it may have more problems. Does it still have warranty?
definately make sure every little option operates well. all electrical such as signals, blinkers, horn, lights, gauges light up at night, etc.
ask for paper work about maintaince*. brakes, tranny fluid, engine oil, etc. if the previous owner did the oil changes her/himself, then best guess is to trust their work. but do ask what kind of did they use and check in the manual to see if it was the right kind of oil. not brands but like "5w-30" or did he or she use "10w-20" etc etc
take it to a freeway, if your hear unusual sounds, then it has to be something wrong with the car... maybe suspension problems, needs wheel alignment, or even the engine itself roaring hard just to get to 65mph.
if possible, ask the owner to take it to a local shop to check for frame damage or any kinda of damage to the car at all. if knowing the frame is bent in any way, that means this car has been into an accident before. but if you can find a shop to get a full check up on a car before you purchasing it, that would be very helpful and save you a lot.
i cant think of others right now, but theirs plently of stuff you got to look out for. im pretty sure theirs sites that give you hints/tips about buying a used car. =|
but goodluck

Mine has 78,000 Miles..
For a 4 year old car, 53K isnt that bad. thats an average of 13,000 miles a year which is below average ( 15,000 Miles a year According to AAA)
