Question about my warranty information?

Well When I bought my car, I got the extended service contract that is for 72 months or 100,000 miles. I just have to pay a $100 deductable. Now after reading through the coverage, I have the premier care coverage. according to the sheet, it covers everything from engine, transmission, AC, Steering, suspension, electrical, electronics, etc. So basically if my calipers fail, wheel cylinders fail, my door locks, that would all be under warranty then right. I just pay the $100 and the dealer pays the rest. If this is correct, that is cool. Someone who knows this let me know.

well you've located a few good things, and a few not-so-good things

an extended warranty is great... if you don't plan on changing anything on the car... realize that there are minor things that can go wrong that won't be as appealing with a $100 deductible... figure $60/hr for labor and a $40 part... oftentimes you're paying the full price for anything minor.. and even then.. if it's not motor/tranny work you're not going to be looking at much more than a few hundred bucks *if* you have a problem...

let's say for instance that something does go bad in your car and the warranty covers it.. what will they replace it with.. an OEM equivalent replacement part... if something went bad in your car without the warranty, what would YOU replace it with? anyone that's seen prices on factory parts will choose an aftermarket (and generally better performing or name-brand) part.... you don't have that option now...

back to "keeping the car stock"... they CANNOT void a warranty or claim based on you modifying the car, but they CAN void a warranty/claim if they can prove (their lawyers are better than yours) that the aftermarket mods caused the problem... remember, they sell these to make money.. you think they do it out of the kindness of their hearts? it's "insurance"... if you have an aftermarket shifter, they will relate that to transmission problems, even if it was not the true cause.. replace your 16" wheels with 18's? they'll blame the difference in rotating mass/diameter/width/etc on the damage to your brakes/axles/differential/etc... installed a new stereo system? well Pshht THAT is what caused the electrical problem... etc etc etc

if your car will remain stock, it may be a good deal... often times, even then, it is not... i'd bet you spent ~$2000 for it... remember that's factored into your loan so you're paying interest on that, too... if you want coverage, take the $2000, have it re-credited to your principle, then put money in the bank.. where it GAINS interest, not is charged interest... if you have a problem, take money out of that "repair account" when you need it... as for a rental, check your insurance co.. you can usually add it for a few bucks (mine's $6) per month...

if your car will NOT remain stock, do the above, too

now, this is not to say all warranties suck or won't get used.. many people benefit from them.. part of the reason people still buy them... they benefitted in the past... but just like vegas, the odds are in their favor...

btw.. how many people do you know that had $2000 worth of repairs on their honda that A) happened outside of the standard warranty, and B) would have been covered anyways because it was a true part problem, not related to racing/mods... and this happened within the first 100k miles and 5 years... how many people do you know with cars approaching 200,000 miles and STILL running...

if you DO decide to 'cancel' your warranty, you can do so generally within 60-90 days at full reimbursement, and after that with a pro-rated amount minus the cost of any repairs already done to the car... it will not be given back to you if you still have an outstanding loan, as it will then be applied to the principle on that loan....

also, if you do have a question about the "problem related to mods" thing.. do a web search for the "Magnusson-Moss Act" which is the legal info you can brush up on for that

Let me know if you have any more questions about these

I paid $995.00 for the extended warranty. As you can see in my profile my car is not completely stock, but the warranty is good for my engine and tranny. But after reading it, it covers alot of stuff, I guess including my door actuators which right now might be the problem for my locks not working. I will take it apart though cause I dont want to take it to honda and it just is a loose connection.

just remember that they may try to pin some of the problems you may have on your existing mods... a lowered car, different suspension parts (despite being better than stock), CAI, exhaust, etc... just becaues it's not physically connected doesn't mean anything

indiglo gauges? they require a power source... that's with your electrical system, and so are your lock actuators... just showing that they can (and will) look for any way to disqualify a claim..

and you also answered your own question.. you're gonna take it apart cuz you don't want them to hassle with it... what good is that warranty now?

$995 is not expensive for an extended warranty

that is pretty damn good since it covers pretty much everything up to 100,000 miles.
