Best setup for better accelleration?

What do you think would be the best setup for better accelleration? I dont want to drag, and im not looking for a better top speed. I already have an SRI, and was going to do the standard header and exhaust but was wondering about cams and such. Ive got an auto sedan with a box and subs so the weight factor dosent concern me, what I am trying to do is have a pretty "stockish" car but with a few mods that will help with everyday driving, highway ect, and I dont mind spending a few $$$ but I want to be able to get up to speed quick and maybe pass a truck faster!

Later,

that will make the biggest difference........ read up more on rotational mass

Rotational energy and mass

Consider a rigid body rotating about a fixed axis of rotation. The kinetic energy is by definition,

Kº ½ Si mi vi2 .

But we have already noted that the speed of the i-th particle may be written in terms of the angular velocity of the body,

v = r^ w.

Making this substitution in the above sum gives,

K = ½ w2 Si miri^ 2.

The latter sum is by definition the rotational mass or moment of inertia of the rigid body,

Iº Si miri^ 2 (discrete)

I = ò r^ 2 dm (continuous)

The kinetic energy is given the name rotational kinetic energy,

Krot = ½ I w2 .

HMMMMMM...... Intresting, won't find this in Hustler!

I got rims that were 2lbs lighter and could feel a difference. I hope you got the fipk shrot ram, otherwise the other ones make you lose low end power. Check out my mod list to get a better idea of how an auto sedan can be modded.

top speed? you want increase top speed or acceleration?

bolt ons may give u a wee bit faster acceleration.. but it'll rob top speed.

Wait, how will it rob top speed? Isn't everything flowing better through the engine from intake and exhaust? I would think there would be an increase.

I believe its cuz powerband shifted and gear ratio isn't optimized for top speed... everyone should notice that say.. if they go from stock to a SRI... top speed might not be 125 mph anymore.. or it may still reach 125 mph but it takes A LOT longer.

i'm not sure if some of u notice this.. but its a very evident thing for me. normally it takes a long time to get from 110 to 125 mph.. or 120... but with an aftermarket intake... it takes even longer.. when I had my Injen SRI.. I couldn't even reach 120 mph even after like a good few minutes..

with the FIPK i could.. but it takes longer.

ah I can't remember a good reference article for this which I read that explains this with more facts behind it.

I suppose I could have remember it wrong.. but thats what usually I remember after reading, the conclusion but not the reasoning. lol. argh.

although I think when u mod ur car in GT 2 (lol) your top speed decrease... but acceleration increase... lol. i'll look for more info.

Well I did notice acceleration goes up fast, but I rarely go above 65mph and never over 100. So I guess I don't really know.I've got it up to 95 once and it didn't take too long.

nothing changed for me till like around 110. it does have something to do with the final gear drive ratio and the powerband.. i tried to search but couldn't find any useful links..

there are sites with reference to changing ur gear ratio.. which will yield either faster acceleration but slower top speed.. or a bit slower accerleration for higher top speed.

hmm... damn my memory.

Easiest way to increase acceleration.... Run "Short" tires. Meaning run tires that have a smaller overall diamiter then stock. That effectivley shortens the final gearing on the car = better acceleratin (Because you are going to be at a Higher RPM for any given MPH) It kills you top speed, but you'll get there quicker. Oh ya, and your Speedometer Will read wrong (it will read like you are going faster then you really are).
