Hmmm I think it kinda sucks I mean, yeah they've got 205 hp supercharged but what did they do for the rest of the car? Recaro seats and wheels? Big deal...They need to do some more suspension work, and speaking of which....how rigid is the chassis design? I don't remember Saturn ever being particularly savvy in that department.
Looks wise, the car isn't too appealing either. You just won't be able to hide the fact that you drive a Saturn. If Kia came out with a "Rio Redline" with the works on it, it'll always be a KIA. There's just no allure to driving these cars...no matter what they've got on em. Maybe in a few years, their images will change, but to me...they're still lower level econo boxes...just not on par with Honda, Toyota, Nissan, etc...
IMO it will severely be overshadowed by the SRT-4.

What I love about it is that GM under-rated the HP numbers. GM says 205HP but SportCompact dynoed the car and it actually produced 197HP to the wheels so that means about 223HP (15% power lost). Not only that but Car and Driver did a 40,000 mile test on the Ion and found out that after 40,000 miles the car performed better. The 0-60 time was down a second, the quarter mile was down 0.7 seconds.
Something else is that their is talk that the current Saturn RL will only be for two or three years and then replaced with a car designed more sport oriented.

I've always thought saturns are good cars. My friend had bought a newer coupe last year and that thing was so nice, inside and out. I see alot of older saturns still driving around as well. I've only seen one SRT4 around here. They're even rarer than evos.

my friend has had several saturns and they are pretty reliable, true they may not be as abundant (sp?) as Honda but then again Honda use to be the same way. I mean if you can get the redline with all that stuff straight from the factory then you can finance the car and not have to worry about getting seperate loans or saving more money for upgrades. Don't get me wrong it can still use a few more upgrades.

I think that saturn Red line looks like crap. and drives like it too.
The Chevy cobalt SS i think will eat into the sales of the Red line, not that it sells well anyway. The Chevy Cobalt is lighter and doesent have those huge overhanges that the saturn has, so it handles better as well, and wouldnt you rather have the guages in front of your face instead of on top of the radio. I would.

Just out of curiosity... have you driven a Saturn Ion Redline, Jas88?
I do agree about the Cobalt SS cutting into Redline sales. I know I'd take one over the Redline, just because it looks more boring. I like boring car designs (that's why I've got a Civic, I suppose).

I've ridden in a redline.. and that thing hauls ***. The Sparcos don't look that bad either. I felt like i was sitting in a lego for some reason though...yea i'm weird like that. For the price, it's not a bad deal at all, but i would rather get a scion tc and civic si because i like their styling better.. the saturn looks ok though just not my cup of tea
Yes I have driven a Redline, has lots of power but dosent like to rev. The handling kind of reminds me of the camaro/Firebird, minus the reardrive.
The car has wierd handling and is unpredictable.
