I thought I was taught you should only brake with your right foot?
Some pretty good foot action going on there. Lots of heel-toe and left foot braking going on. Def a good vid to watch.

Left foot braking is a technique used in competitive driving for similar reasons to heel-to-toe shifting. It is exclusive to FWD applications. It's a good technique to counter understeer. During hard cornering, FWD cars will tend to want to keep going straight pushing themselves to the outer edge of the corner. While still on the accelerator, left foot braking helps to keep the car going through the corner, while still providing power to the wheels. RWD cars don't usually use this technique because they can be much more easily turned rapidly by using excess power to the wheels and the use of opposite lock steering.
Left foot braking is closely related to the handbrake turn, and is even used by some FWD "drifters."

nookiemonster has one aspect of Left Foot Braking down. But in racing its used by alot of people for different things. heres a list of Non FWD specific uses of left foot braking
1. Shortens the amount of time between Full acceleration and Full braking (as you ease off the gas, you ease on the brake) Essentially removing the normally wasted time spent coasting while your right foot swaps between pedals.
2. It can be used to help stabilize the car in a corner by playing the brakes off the gass and thus shift weight around the car to where its needed.
3. The Transtion between acceleration and braking is much smoother, so the car doesnt get upset just before you enter a turn.
I can say that just about Every top driver in autocross Left foot brakes, no matter what car they drive. me, I left foot brake for any corner I dont have to down shift for.
using left foot braking to counter Understeer.... thats a waste of Brakes and tires, sure it can be done but if your car is understeering that much then you need to spend some time Re-tuning the setup. and its not really coutering understeer, as the car is still understeering. you are just creating enough oversteer to turn the car more then what the understeer is preventing. So its essentially a 4 wheel drift with a touch of oversteer.

Finally got to watch the movie (work computer wouldnt let me) and I realized.... I do most of that stuff on the way to work! theres a few corners that I left foot brake for and a few that I Heel/toe for. Mind you that I'm not going at race speeds, but just doing the actions keeps them fresh in my mind for when I am Racing. Its pratice, so that when I autocross I dont have to think about Heel/toe shifts and I'm confident with left foot braking. freaky.
