Test drove an 04 Si (long)
Test drove an 04 Si (long)
Went to have my car serviced today at Santa Ana Honda. I wanted to sit in the Si because i am thinking about buying the seats later on. Well, a sales person asked if i wanted to take it for a test drive and i agreed.
The first thing i noticed were that the seats were nice and comfy, but didnt have the side support that i expected. The next thing was how light the clutch pedal was. i thought that i would stall, but the clutch pedal take up is pretty predictable and i was imedialtely confident in drving the car
. I did a couple of 3000 rpm shifts and the shifter was smooth and easy to shift. The car accelerated nicely, not fast but with the added torque comapred to the 1.7 made the Si much more enjoyable to drive in. Also the engine is really quite and smooth (no harshness at all). The car did however handle much like the coupe and sedan, which is kindo of a let down. another downside were the brakes...they were more linear than the soupe or sedan, but i could tell they were weak.
Overall i give this car a huge thumbs up
. The car was easy to drive right from the get go. I wish that Honda would have put this engine in at least the EX model civic. But overall the Si is a fine car and with the good deals availible, i would have bought this car than my 02 sedan.

personally i wouldnt pay that much for an si.. but to each his own, personally i need 4 doors... just because i transport ppl a lot
i like the si concept.. but they needed more power and more aggressive suspension
wait.. the civic needed to be like that too

The shifter placement is nice. It isnt awkward shifting it at all....it's more comfortable actually. I bet you can get a nice price on the Si still. If i were to buy it i would give them a quote of around 15000-16500 for it...see if the sales man are willing to take it.
my cousin bought his 2002 civic in 2003 w/ 600miles for $14, i bought my 2003 ex for $13k w/ 9miles
its all about connections. my uncle is a salesman at honda north here in fresno. personally i wouldnt buy an si...although it handles better and has a little more power than an ex, it looks like a miniature minivan...

I got my EX w/ auto, SRS and it's a 2004 for 15.3 and i thought I got a good deal... I wish I was related to a salesman!!!
Yeah when I drove the Si I thought...
Damn this is a nice car.
Then I realized that it cost as much as a Prelude did. And I'd much rather be rolling in a type-sh than a Civic Si. The type SH was SOOO much faster and more fun to drive.
The Si is great. But it's no sports car. It's still a civic.

One comment on the Si, and to me its biggest dissapointment. WEIGHT. I can get over what it looks like. But The Si is grossly over weight, Officially form honda it weighs more then the RSX-S!!!! what ever happend to light weight sports cars?
Si Curb weight 2782 Lbs
RSX-S Curb weight 2767 lbs
RSX curb weight 2694 lbs

Why do people think its crap. Someone name one reason, well no one has. I know one of the local guys has an 03, and loves his. I dont like it, because Im not into Hatch's, other I heard build is really good, better than the US built coupe's and sedan's.

I can only quote what honda posts. and they show it being heavier then both RSXs. Give me a nice 89 Si thats just a hair over 2000 LBS and I'd be happy.
The only partial saving grace of the Si is the power plant. and its only partial. it has good torque but hits the rev limiter to quick. My buddy that works at Lithia Honda as a tech has one and has done quite a bit but i don't see major gains for the money you drop. I have heard ramblings of a Si Coupe in the near future because of the good sales of the coupe compared to the hatch.

The heavy weight is the main reason I did not go with an Si. Well that plus another year of payments. But I noticed the same thing as you Zzyzx, the damn Si is heavier than the RSX-S. That really turned me off from the car.
I'm waiting for Honda to come out with something sweeter. And not so heavy.
just went to check out the s2k the other day and my uncle says that the 2006 SIs will be available in coupe. he says he's not believing it either, but thats the news they got from honda. hope hes right or hondas screwed.
I think the Si's are badass. Sure, RSX's are great but they're a lot more expensive.
Will that be a newer body style?

Hey every1... I own an 04 Si and I love it... I got a question for everyone though... Do you actually look at the weight of the car when you go to buy it? I mean come on, not buying a car because of its weight it ****IN INSANE... If you're so worried about the weight then buy a CRX...

Overall i give this car a huge thumbs up
. The car was easy to drive right from the get go. I wish that Honda would have put this engine in at least the EX model civic. But overall the Si is a fine car and with the good deals availible, i would have bought this car than my 02 sedan.

The 7th Gen Si is a huge dissapointment. It shouldn't even be a Si because a real Civic Si should set its self quite a distance in performance than the lower model civics. When I test drove it, it braked the same, accelerated the same, and felt the same as my slightly performance modded EX. Now that my car is lowered a equal driver as me wouldn't stand a chance in the Si.
I also had a chance to drive the new Si before I bought my coupe. Although it shares the same platform and suspension, it was obvious to me that the tuning of the suspension was better. More taught and precise. As someone posted earlier, the engine is the gem that differentiates it from the coupes and sedans. It's the new passenger side mounted clockwise rotating K motor similar to what's found in the RSX. The power was a noticable improvement for me compared to the EX. At the time I purchased my coupe, the dealer said that the downfall of the Si was the styling. People are just not going for it, and styling is what sells cars (it was originally designed for the European market). BTW, I chose the EX coupe because I wanted an auto trans to commute with, and found the interior more comfortable, and the layout of the coupe or sedan just seemed friendlier for the commuter. It's a pretty damn good buy for a person willing to put up with the styling since the dealers are trying to unload them at EX prices or cheaper. For what you get for the price, I personally give it a big THUMBS UP!

I autocross alot, so Yes I do look at the weight... when I got my EX, I wasnt autocrossing, but now that I do... I look at a whole lot more then just the HP rating..
I have been looking into those for a while, and I saw one on my dealers lot today for the price my folks paid for my EX since it has been sitting for a while, it's the blue color it looked really nice, I dunno if i'm gonna do it though...
I'm not asking for a 2000lb. Si like Zzyzx said, but the car would be a whole lot better in the corners and in the straight line if it weighed as much or even less than the coupe or sedans.
