Turbo vs. New Car

Alright I recently had a talk with my parents, and they said that I had 2 options with my car:

1. Keep my Civic (in which I would drop it and go turbo)

2. Keep my car stock for 2 years until my dad needs a new car (in which he would buy my car from me stock). My parents would give me the KBB for my car and I would be able to put that towards a new car (RSX-S, WRX, SRT-4, Celica GTS or w/e). They said since I would be in college in 2 years, that I would only have to pay them back over the summers I was home.

What would you do? Start modding and keep the civic or keep it stock and wait 2 years for a new car?

more can be done to the 4-5 cars you listed plus they already start at a higher stock hp than a simple civic. stay stock (i know its hard to do) and get something else.

keep your car, if you're talking to your parents about this, then i'm assuming you are young.. keep what you have and be happy.. when you get older and maybe have some money, move on to bigger and better.. save the money you'd be putting in for the drop and turbo on.... college?

I disagree. SRT's despite everyone's hatred toward them actually have pretty quality engines in them that respond well to mods. I'd buy one. And the celica is a quick car for what it is

whoa...possibly a new/second car by the time you're 18, going into college. Lucky. I would wait and get something better. srt-4 get a lot of power for the price

You're a ***. The upcoming TRD celica will destroy most cars on a road course/rally cross. The SRT-4 is probably THE best quarter miler to come to the compact segment in a long time...possibly the best quarter mile sport compact period.

Hmmm well to answer the original question, what is most important to you? Do you want fuel economy? A good handler/ canyon carver? A good quarter miler? Drift car (I'll laugh in your face if this is what you want)....it really depends on what you want. consider that and then choose accordingly.

My opinion is you should keep the civic. You can basically turn it into whatever you want out of it. It's also a great first car. If you're only 16, driving experience comes into play as well. I don't think an SRT-4 is a good car for ANY 16 year old. Flame if you want, but it's the damn truth.

up to you man.anything can be done with money. If you drop a k20 into the civic your set. Car is lighter than an RSX to began with!

if you turbo the d17 you will have a very fast car still.
rule number one! there will always be someone faster than you! build your car because you love your car!

My father has a corvette and is getting the new C6 z06 possibly. i already got an ungodly race car in the family. For me all matter is a car that can do 14 secs mid highs or lows, looks great, sounds great..and can be daily driven that I dont need to make payments on! That would be a turbo D17 civic.

i wish i had your dilemma at that age in my high school years...i say keep that bitch stock, and then put that money towards a wrx. they are already turboed, and they come with a grip more horsepower stock than any civic. dont get me wrong, i love my civic, but i would love a wrx or even a gti more

i say keep the civic. deck it out.
my first car was a ford escort zx2 baby. dohc zetec 130 hp! too bad it was an automatic.
my second car was a 2000 mustang GT, sohc 260 hp! with a stick. too bad i cracked the engine block.
my third car is my 2001 honda civic ex, sohc 127 hp! with a stick. too bad it's basically stock. but it treats me right, it wont crap out on me. plus the insurance and gas mileage own me. going from 16 mpg in the stang to 33 in the civic... thats a huge difference... unfortunately so is the horsepower difference.

keep the civic, turbo or swap. i'm not a fan of the srt-4, celicas are okay, but not my cup of tea. do what you want. you're still really young.

i was stuck in your situation about a year and a half ago. I told my dad i was going to save up for a turbo(I had the funds) but he was said why spend the money on an engine like that. So he gave me the choice of finding a better car and I did. I remeber when I was so pumped to mod my civic but when I started searching for a new car I began thinking that it just wasnt worth it to mod and I would be happy being better off.

So IMO save your money dude...you'll be happier down the road(literally).

dont listen to all the turbo fanboys.. Your 16 who knows 2 yrs down the road you might not even like cars anymore. I say keep your civic through college and do some minor mods, that way your civic should be paid off if not already, not to mentino you wouldnt be paying on a car during college, the civic gas mileage would save you money.....

Then when you got out you would have your cheap paid off civic, and get a job with your degree and go buy a new m3. And have your civic as your car to drive to work in so you dont put miles on your new m3.

i say boost all the way, buying a car thats factory fast is cool i guess, but wheres the love in that? you bought a vic and obviously thats what you like. i say stay with the H and build it to dust all the cars that you listed up ^ there. celicas are as pretty as the new bugs without the factory vase and as for a 4 dr turbo i'd go with the evo or wrx before i grab life by the horns. ewwww. and damn homie, when i was 16 my ride was my skateboard and whenever my mom let me borrow her millenia. but the final word is with you and how you feel bout it. yea people on the forum will give you advise but us blabbin should only have so much effect on you. do what you feel and do it wisely.
