Wrecked 04 Civic Help
Got rear ended by a guy with a suspended license going at least 40 mph. I walked away with no injury!
The guy claimed his foot hit the gas instead of the brake.
Damage estimate is about $10,000. Should I salvage the car or get it fixed? There is no damage from the rear wheels forward. The dealer body shop claims they can fix it as good as new. The car is 6 weeks old with about 2500 miles on the odo.

ouch, ouch, and ouch again. that thing just got smashed straight in didnt it. id say scrap it ive heard of people getting their cars "fixed" after something like that, and well first off resale value goes straight down, and ive heard the car is not the same after the fix.

that sucks man. sorry to hear that, i would defeniatly say total it and get a better car. i wish someone would have hit me before i spent all this money on my car so i could get something nice.
OUCH! And here I thought I was the only one who had a 4 door EX in that nice blue color... Hurts to look at the pictures though!
Math time!!!
Window sticker (on mine): 17,949
Total for my car tax, tag, title and interest on the loan: 18,088.16
Your insurance company is going to be paying out roughly 2,000 more than half the value of the car. I'd total it, cut your losses and get a new car.
If you got it financed and have equity on the loan, the car is worth more than you owe, and they'll give you book value if you scrap it, definatley do that, you can quite possibly make some money out of it.
Cars that are repaired from that extensive of damage are -never- right again. Double that seeing as from the picture it looks like he could have whacked the rear suspension a good bit. When suspension gets hit, it bends the mounts, when it bends the mounts the whole body needs to be replaced along with all the suspension components. To fix it right, the body shop would likely need to buy a new civic unibody and swap/buy all the parts to build you a new car. Even if they did do that, I'd never trust a body shop to put a car together.
I'd get a new car.

salvage definitely, it will NOT be the same after the fix, right now your car is worth more dead than alive. oh, and you could send me the front grill so i can try to fit it on my 02 (ill pay for shipping)
He hit you make him pay for it (through insurance) plus you can try to total it but if the ins co says no way(some ins cos are jerks like that) you have 2 choices: 1 have it fixed, 2 take the 10g and keep the wreck (which will take alot more than that to fix cause the est is based on a visual inspecton there are proly alot of hidden damages)and if you owe more than 10 for it then you have some number crunching to do.
Total it, dont fix it. Then sell for salvage on Ebay or 7thgencivic.
I will take the rims and tires, AND i will pick them up at your place. Please send me directions to your place if the other posters dont end up taking the rims off your hands.
How much for the front floor mats?
How much for the drivers and front passenger seat?

Thank you for the advice. The problem is that I still owe $14,500 on the car (I've made only one payment). I'm working with the dealer to take the smashed car in trade on a new car but only if I have enough $$ to cover the difference. I'm asking the insurance co for more because of reduced resale value when I trade in the car. I will ask the body shop about the rear suspension mounts. If they are toast, so is the car.
damnnnnnnn
that's frighteningggg...
IMO: TOTAL it, get the money from the insurance company...get a new car...
believe me (us), that car WON'T run normally anymore....
also, WONT look as good as it was...

hey congratulations! you're the first member to mess up a 2004 vic!
just kidding. that's pretty tough. that's a whole lotta fixin and repairs man. and after that there's gonna be a lotta problems (a car is never as new as it was before an accident). you should just get another car

just curious, what was he driving?..
i got rear-ended about a month ago by this guy driving an infiniti sedan at about 15-20mph, and my damage was only $1500. the only visible damage was a little hole in my bumper.
looks like you we're rear-ended by a pick-up/suv.
oh yeah my opinion, try and get a new civic.
