Ford Mustang GT-R
With the 40th anniversary of the Mustang right around the corner on April 17th, Ford will commemorate its pony car’s special birthday by showing a hot-rod concept of the upcoming 2005 sports car, called the GT-R. Evidence that the new Mustang indeed has a racing future, the GT-R uses 85 percent of the production car’s body, the same suspension setups, and a 440-hp “Cammer” V-8 engine, which is currently available for $14,995 from the Ford Racing catalog. Ford’s intention is to show grassroots racers that the Mustang can be transformed into a race car at relatively moderate cost and effort. The “Cammer,” which is based on Ford’s MOD 4.6-liter V-8, features 94 mm cylinder bores (for a full 5.0 liters of piston displacement), forged pistons, an 11.0:1 compression ratio, ported heads, higher-lift cams, beehive-shaped valve springs, higher-flow fuel injectors, and a magnesium variable-geometry intake manifold. Painted bright orange — similar to the orange Mustang Boss 302 Trans-Am race cars of 1970 — the GT-R features a Ford Racing-supplied TTC T-56 six-speed manual transmission, a carbon fiber hood, Brembo brakes, huge 20-inch wheels with Pirelli slicks, and a full aero treatment, including front and side splitters and a composite rear spoiler. Inside, the GT-R receives a Sparco racing seat with a five-point safety harness, a chrome-moly roll cage, and a Formula One-style steering wheel with integrated warning signals, tachometer, gear selection, and telemetry. On the production side of the spectrum, Ford will show the Escape Hybrid SUV.

It's not going to have dubs. Unless you really think the M45, STS are all gonna come with 20"s and 19"s.

Does anything seem wrong with that idea?

The base model is supposed to sell for under $20k. The GT will probably be a couple $k more....around $25 I estimate.

Rep Power: 0 I'll be impressed when Ford comes out with a sports car that can turn as well as straight-line it.
The last two mustangs have been so weak in the frame that any hard cornering becomes a liability; With many large mid-corner corrections based on frame flex alone. And yes, that continues even with every brace known to man.... You can only drive at the limit in a straight line.
