saying that the g35 is a skyline, it WILL be based off the g35. There have always been skylines across the seas that weren't street monsters. Its only the GTR model that tuners drool over.
If the GTR comes to the US, it will look like the g35.

just an interesting question ive been thinking about. is the current G35 a rebadged version of the current Skyline or.... is the current skyline a rebadged version of the current G35? hahaha

what in the hell is a "real" skyline. and how does the company that makes a car strip it of everything that is "skyline"
if nissan made a 2 seater convertible with 120hp front drive 4 speed automatic.....
then decided to put "nissan skyline gt-r Vspec II" on the trunk.....guess what? You're out of luck...that would be the real skyline. would it suck? YES. too bad.

Nissan has lost themselves..... They probably wont bring the turbo motor (just like MOST Nissans), then its going to look like a whack G35, plus it wont be over here for another 3 years? please, what a load of crap, Nissan should be ashamed of themselves, and the fact that they havent heald thier heratige like they should.

GOT IT! OCtober 2003, C&D:
"Now comes word that an upcoming G35 platform mate, the Skyline GT-R, will get not only ATTESA ET-S but also a twin-turbo V6 tuned by Cosworth. Producing in the neighborhood of 480 horsepower, the new V-6 features twin-turbo motor assist, a technology employed during off-boost preiods-say, when idling-that temporarily turns the GT-R into a naturally aspirated car. Here's how it works: when off boost, magnetic valves open to form a bypass that redirects exhaust gas around the turbos and directly into the precatalysts; when on boost, the valves close and channel exhaust gas into the turbos. The net effect is a car reportedly capable of meeting strict emissions regulations around the world."

It's been known for over a year that the GT-R was coming to the U.S. This is not new news. It was announced by Ghosn along with the concept model unveiling.
I've said this in so many GT-R threads, but Skyline and the Skyline GT-R split. So now it's Nissan GT-R and Nissan Skyline.
People rag on the Skyline aka Infiniti G35 when it's not a GT-R. The non-GT-R Skyline was weak even before the G35. Spanning from the GTS to GTS-T, they performed worse than the G35. So actually the G35 is better than previous Skylines. Only the Skyline GT-R was the model that garnered all the respect and hype. The equivalent to the Skyline GT-R, aka Nissan GT-R's not even out yet. So why rag on the G35?
Comparing the Skyline GT-R to the G35 is like comparing a previous generation Mustang Cobra to a present model stock V6 and saying the present day Mustang sucks. They're completely different trims and you can't compare them.
The pics which ppl say are ugly are only concept pics. It will change. It will likely share the same chasis as the G35, maybe be based on the VQ engine. Probably share similar contours to the G35.
And for all you VQ haters, what do you hate about the engine??? It's a solid engine, a little tweaking and tuning will make it better. I don't understand this praise of the RB and trashing of VQ. The RB was a 280 hp engine, not something rare these days. Skyline made a buzz for its Attessa ETS, not for its engine.
There should almost be a sticky on the Skyline, so many threads prop up about it spreading the same misinformation.

So is it going to be a Nissan? Or would it be sold here as an Infiniti? What price range? Why are people sooo over hyped about it?
These are some of the questions I've always wanted to know after I learned it would be coming here a while back...

Sounds like a great car, but from a tuning aspect, I wouldn't want to have anything to do with it. Tuning that engine would be a bitch. It most likely goes into open and closed loop mode on its own and any type of fuel/engine management (a must on FI cars) would be EXTREMELY difficult. STi owners, from what I understand have similar problems, but with that complex setup, it would be magnified I'm sure. Let the yuppies buy it. I'll take a WRX or EVO and be able to do alot more than what this suggests.
Anyways, the point Im trying to make is that humans hate change. We really do. Hell, look back during the 70's when imports were first coming out here to the states. EVERYBODY said they would last 5 years, and look where they are now.
I really think we have to see what motor we are actually playing with before we start the speculation. Who knows, this motor could really be a gift given down by god in the tuning markets. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.....
As for the use the g35 platform, i really have no problems with that as long as it doesnt corner as slow as an Irish Wolfhound and throw down 1/4 mile times that are at least well into the 13's even maybe high 12's, I think I'd be pleased with it.
And who really knows when this car is wind up on these shores. Ive been hearing since 2001-on that the US is getting a skyline. And just recently, My buddy who works for nissan/infinity was watching those demo videos at work and they just briefly discussed the "skyline" and they said in the video model availability TBA. So who really knows.
Not meant as a flame or anything, but I think we just have to steer clear of all the internet hype about this and just wait till we get some solid evidence that the "skyline" is actually heading to this side of the pond. This is just my $0.02 and take it for that

ummm. no, in stock form, it might be fast against other Jap cars (NSX-R is faster).... but it's not that great! The main thing ppl like about it is that it makes power easy, and insane HP can be reached. And from the article I typed up, it will be here.... sorry, forgot to mention, it will be Infiniti... but knowing how ppl are, they will probably change to JDM emblems anyway. Just recently, I saw a USDM Evo 8 with JDM Evo 8 badging.

those RB26DETT GT-R engines are incredibly potent. You can run crazy boost on stock internals.
obviously that engine prob. won't be coming out with the newer skyline

Badging on cars is one of the weirdest things. I've never understood why people re-badge cars....i take my badges off, goo-gone, wax that paint and im done.

I have only 2 questions regarding a GTR in the US.
1. How heavy is it going to be?
2. How wide of a tire can you stuff under it?
I dont really care how much HP it can make or what the body looks like or what drivetrain is in the thing. These 2 questions deal almost exclusivly to handling, obviously if its light it will have an advantage in the twistys, but if its not light then if you can stuff a wide *** tire under the thing it should still be decent in the corners.

More misinformation - the main reason why the Skyline can't be brought over are the safety regulations, not the emissions. Evo VIII was converted to have slightly larger bumpers than the Evo VII, hence they changed the front fascia while they were at it. They also tweak the ECU slightly, but the car in the U.S. is almost guarenteed to have more power stateside, since Japan has the informal 280 horsepower limit. Case in point, the Infiniti M45 has a lot more power than its Nissan Japan counterpart, the Nissan Cedric/Gloria.
People who rag on the VQ haven't given a valid reason why it sucks - so don't rag on it. Same goes with the G35.
If you get your car information from Gran Turismo or the Fast and Furious, at least know what you're talking about before you rag on cars.
As far as tire width, the G35 has 225/45R18, so it's not going to be much wider than that.
Wider, while offering more contact patch, puts more unsprung weight and therefore isn't always better. Especially since it's going to have the same chasis as the G35, it's not going to be that much different, like huge wheels on a Viper.
Who knows how heavy it'll be, maybe they'll use more aluminum up front to even the distribution. Ghosn said he intended to market the car as a "super car," akin to a Corvette, Porsche, etc so there might be lighter materials, probably some CF, since the R34 Skyline GT-R V-Spec II and N-Spec had a CF hood (painted, to the dismay of ricers
)

225 isnt all that wide, and your confusing contact patch and unsprung weight abit. (Its generally accepted in racing that its better to have the wider wheel/tire at the cost of a bit of unsprung weight). why? because that rubber is all thats keeping you stuck to the asphalt, true that lower unspring weight will help the suspension work better, but handling is all about geting as much rubber on the ground as possible. This is the same issue that the Audi TT has, you can easily make an TT out run a corvette in a straight line by upgrading the tubos and such, but you cant make it corner as well as one because you simply cant get enough rubber under the car (The TT weighs about as much as a corvette so it makes a good example)
so for the GTR to only fit a 225 or maybe a 245, thats not all that much rubber under a car that will probably weigh 3000+ lbs. (the G35 Coupe allready weighs 3,416 lbs) (corvettes are running 265+ and weigh in the 3174 lb range)
Personally I've allways felt that the Skylines have allways been a bit overrated.
