Question?
How did the civic become the most used tuner car? I mean, out of all the cars to choose from, why did the civic become the car that everyone wanted to modify? I understand how integra's and del sols and etc got involved because they used many of the same parts as the civic, but why the civic? I know some people are gonna say because it is cheap and reliable, but what about sentras or corollas, etc.

coz all moms and dads thought honda was a good company.
If you ask any random american about imports vs domestics I bet Honda would come to mind as the first import company.
That is, walk up to any person and ask "what car company comes to mind when I say import?"
Every customer I talk to at work when they guess what type of car I have they automatically guess honda. Being asian, with a car, basically I'm stamped with the honda stereotype.
It's like how a lot of ppl think all asians are chinese.
Thus all imports are first hondas and then.... "OH YEAH! there's toyota now I remember"
So all the ppl bought hondas first coz imports = reliability.
Civics were the cheapest car and reliable (honda)
So a lot of households had civics because the civics have honda reliability for cheap (kid can crash it coz it's not a benz mentality) and then when the parents gave the kids these cars, the kids tried to make it more custom and thus in turn modifying companies jumped on this gold mine and produced a lot of aftermarket parts for civics.

ok you answered WHY people buy Hondas, but why did the aftermarket ADAPT to modifying them so predominantly? No one has answered that. I know all cars have some sort of aftermarket, but it seems like a lot of companies jump on the civic.

Because everyone has hondas and the kids were like "well I will work with what I have, at least I have a car." So then they modified their cars and the aftermarket companies saw this as a potential gold mine and jumped on it because they saw the growing interest. I think I answered it dood.
If everyone in the country is eating/ wants to eat burgers and fries, you don't start a company that makes caviar.
Or take this for example... why don't you start a company that JUST makes parts for supras.
I mean it'd get a following but how many supras are there in this country compared to civics? You'd be a dumba$$ to not jump on the civic train.

Plus... Maybe it all started with like the uniwiper and then one day some guy was like hmm maybe if i made a new intake then civic owners will get better performance AND looks (uniwiper).
No that's not what I meant but it works too.
Therefore, the price is WRONG bVtch!

...... like.. the motors can hold such and such power, so it's used.. ect ect.

i think its more of a supply/demand thing. since more people started with owning the civic because its cheap and reliable...and passed it on to kids who needed a first car etc....they were the demand. companies who make the tuner parts saw the demand and jumped on it to supply the parts. after that people saw that there are more parts for the civics than for other cars and bought civics because they knew finding stuff wouldnt be a problem...its like a domino effect from there.
i think it gained speed because the civic is easy to fiddle with and mod even if you dont want to get deep into it. with some other cars you really have to know more about cars to work with them. plus the parts are more expencive (audi, bmw etc.).

I would say one word, "Hatchback"
Before major import days, everyone had a 91 civic hatchback, with a cherry bomb exhaust and iceman intake.
Sooo, I would say that the civic trend carried over into the style today.

I think that the styling had a lot to do with it. The cars were pretty bland as it was, but the lines on them made so much possible. You have to admit, even with all of the civics you have seen, civics hooked up look very nice and a lot more expensive than they are.
