Angry At Honda...

I'm at Family Honda right now, and it's costing me $63 for a "minor service". Not cool. What does this consist of? Rotating tires, changing oil, topping off fluids.... is there anything that I can't do myself? This is retarded; I can get some jack stands for cheaper and do everything myself. Grrr.... [end rant here].

Well, I'm asking you guys if that's all. This is dumb. I'm gonna do this myself next time. They can't void my warranty or anything, can they? I've done brake pads before, too. How much would the pads themselves cost me? I want a lift in my garage.

That's not too bad, My wife took her CRV into Bell Honda for a 10,000 mile service. What does a 10,000 mile service entail? Changing the oil, tire rotation, and "checking parts". Cost? $160

I got pissed, called Hondamotive in Tempe, they would have done the service for like $45. Friggin stealerships.

I've made up my mind. I'll get better oil than they have, and do everything myself. The reason I took it today is because the suspension knocks, and from my understanding, it should be covered under warranty as it was recognized by a tech service bulletin. If I do the oil, wheel rotation/balancing, and brake pads, would that void my warranty? I've done those procedures many times before, just not on my own car [cause I didn't have it yet].

shouldn't void your warranty. The maintenance schedules are "suggested" not required. I just love that the Maintenance light comes on 2k miles before a maint interval. Good thing it is easy to reset.

Oh, and as far as the knocking, take it in, have them fix it, when they ask if you want the maintenance you tell them "No, I am not letting you rape me for an oil change and tire rotation".

Haha. I'm about ready to go there right now and take my car back. Wow, I'm getting more and more angry as I think about how easy and cheap this would've been. The thing is, I don't have a job, so I'm going off of Christmas money here [money saved up from the past four years]. As soon as I get a job, though, I'm gonna buy some jack stands-- we have tools. You know what? I'm seriously considering parking right outside this place and offering their services for half the price... no, for free, just to shove it in their faces.

Dealer maintenance is a way to get stupid people's money. I've seen people go in and pay hundreds of dollars just so some guy can change the oil and look at a few systems on the car. Total rip. All I get done there is oil change and warranty stuff. Doing it yourself won't void anything.

Lol. I should just pull out the bulb for the stupid maint. light. The lights only tells you it's time for another raping.

Ha. Thanks. Do our cars have a self-diagnosing function? How do we do it, and where can we get the codes?

Uhm, air tools are pretty expensive. Compressor is about $100 - $200...Tools themselves (depending on what you are buying) are in the $100+ range for good ones. You can buy less expensive impact wrenches and what not, but you get what you pay for.

I actually opted for an electric Impact, until I get into my house and can set up the garage. Then I will be buying air tools gradually. I figure initial outlay for a "Starter" air tool set will run about $500.

And how much was the electric one?

Not sure about the self diagnosing, I am sure there is something in the Tech area about that. Prolly need an OBD code reader or something (another $150 for a good one).

Sorry I am not up too much on the Honda engines...All my equipment is geared to BMWs. Soooo much easier to work on.

Haha. That's cause they tell you exactly what you want to do. Thanks, I'll check the tech section. I have nothing to do anyways.

The electric impact ran me $50 at Checker. Air tools are like buying your socket sets all over again, you have to have special sockets, different tools, etc. I think they are definately worth the investment for the do-it-yourselfer though. Nothing like your neighbors walking by and staring at your garage as the sound of an Air Impact wrench going off

They may not be worth it if all you are going to do is oil changes.

Oh, just thought of this...most Checker's have a rental service if you are not able to buy the tools right off. I am not sure how much that runs, but it may be something to look into. I have rented spring compressors from them before and it was like $20 with a credit card deposit in case you break it type of deal.

I just want a set of metric impact sockets [working on a civic]. And if I have my own tools, I will definately do most things myself. I have been planning on doing all future mods myself, save suspension cause I'm not experienced with it. So, it won't just be oil. I'll look into the renting idea next time around. Oh, and how much would an oil filter wrench cost?

I think Oil filter wrenches are like $20. If you check out Checker.com they may have prices for it. All my tools are metric, Euros and Asian imports are all metric.

Oh, and there is a DIY for suspension. Good instructions too.

Hrm. I'll check that out when the time comes. I'm still debating whether I should get the FIPK II first, or save up and get Hayames first. The Checker site isn't working on this computer. I'm hungry...

Add just an intake won't make a diff in our cars. But I bet you will feel a huge diff if you add a set of hayames.

Intakes suck for our cars. Save up for the more expensive mods and you'll be glad in the long run.
