Need help please!!

Ok I need somebody to help me out with a problem I have. Here it is My daily driver is a 90 Beretta GTZ with a QUAD 4 and last night I went out racing with my friends in it which is nothing new we do it every weekend. Well I went to a party afterwards and when I came outside to start it up to let it warm up (-20 outside) I came back out and noticed I was only showing 8 volts so I knew my cerpentine belt came off, well when I went out this morning andlooked at it I noticed that my crank pulley was about a half inch out from everything else which caused my belt to come off. So I took a rubber mallet and pounded it back in and it slid back in. What would cause it to come out like that? I checked the bolt already and it was tight as fukk so I know it wasnt that. Please help if you have any Ideas because I am afraid to drive it now and the main crank pulley come off and throw all the timing out of wack. Please somebody must know???

Soooo. . . if the bolt was tight, how was it sticking out 1/2 an inch? You lost me there.

I have no I idea when I looked down to see if everything was aligned the main crank was sticking out about a half inch as if it was about to fall off and all it took was a rubber mallet to pound it back in to the block. I started it back up once I put the belt back on and it runs fine I check under the car by the pulley while the car was still in the air and looked at the crank and it was rolling alright and there is no noise coming from the bottom end for a possible crank walk I am just worried once I start driving again the vibration and torque might push it off again. I am just wondering what would cause the main crank pulley to push out like that and the bolt not be loose at all??

Very strange. I was actually thinking crank walk when you first said the bolt was still very tight holding the pully on the crankshaft. Even though it's a bit of work, you may want to take the serpentine off and take the crank pully off, too. Inspect the pully for signs of wear around where the bolt secures it to the crank.

Other than that, I'm still at a loss.

Well that is a good Idea I though about doing that to see if the inside of the pulley that the bolt presses up against is getting worn out.
One thing though what exactly is a crank walk , what does it do to the engine? Would I hear it coming before it happens or is it just something that just happens out of the blue??

Not exactly sure, other than I hear of it happening on high mileage engines, and from a reworked engine (sometimes things aren't fully tightened)

How many miles are on the engine, and when was it last serviced for belts, etc if ever?

well it has 115500 I just had the engine out in Oct when i changed the timing chain and all gears and a sh!tload of other things but as far as the internals nothing has been touched I still run 180 psi on all 4 cylinders which is the same as if the engine is brand new. I always change the oil every 2 to 3000 mile and always run castrol I just starting putting a synth blend in also because of the harsh winters over here. I bought it back in 99 with 90000 miles on it and have done good maint. on in it since but I do run it hard when I race.
