History of the 7th gen civic article
Just finished doing the research and writing up all the changes for all the years. WannaBFast helped a lot with the proofreading and any details I forgot or left out.
Anyway, check it out and tell you what you think. It was interesting to me to see how they models changed over the years, so I hope it's as interesting to you guys.

i enjoyed but the only thing i would add is that i believe you should mention this is the history of the U.S. models cause when you list them you don't list how they are labeled in Canada and other parts of the world, just a though
ya good reading. I just have one minor thing to point out.
"Originally know for it's motorcycles, Honda has proven over the years to be a true leader in engine efficiency and quality. "
You might want to add an "n" after know to make it known. I think you just left it out that's all.

Don't say I don't listen to the readers! I've incorporated your suggestions as stated below. Thanks for all the compliments and suggestions and keep 'em coming. You guys are the real experts of the 7th gen, so if you think of anything I missed, post it here.
I did mention more sound insulation on the 2002 model, but I wasn't sure if the 2001 had more insulation than the 2000, so I didn't mention it.
Added a comment on the body changes.
I'm not sure what you mean by "humpless" rear exhaust.
Added a small notation at the beginning to avoid international confusion.
FIXED!
Also added more info about ULEV and AT-PZEV info on the GX and Hybrid.

Nice you could also add that they made the cab quieter and larger and front end shorter and the new humpless rear exhaust. Those were some nice pluses I thought.

Very nice article. Must have lots of research time put in. I just want to mention that I thought VTEC-E is only on the HX and not the EX. EX has a regular VTEC system. I am not sure though.

Both the HX and EX have VTEC-E. HX uses a lean-burn version of it for gas mileage.
The EX uses a performance version of it, along with a different exhaust manifold to get more hp. That's the simplest way to describe it.
It's mentioned in the brochures as:
"Honda's VTEC-E technology is employed in the Civic HX and EX engines. VTEC-E improves low-rpm torque and high-rpm power for better driving performance."

Good article Bellz. I'm going to rummage through my paperwork from my car, because I still seem to think that my sticker on the window said vtec-e. I'm probably wrong, but I think it would be interesting.
sorry for the confusion... Ya know the hump in the backseat floor in almost every car? right behind the center console? We dont have it due to the redesigned exhaust system in the 7th gen. And yes even the 01 had the quieter cab.
Good Job!
Good Job!
I found this info for your article... you might want to add some of the things maybe... maybe not. Just thought you might want it.

At first I didn't belive our cars has VTEC-E, but since I took a look at inside the engine head and Honda's official pages, I finally come up with a better description with it.
*For Bellz: Honda Civic's brochures does not describe the VTEC-E technology used by either HX or EX. If so, I would not buy the car.
There are a few places on my 2003 Civic brochure mention about VTEC.
1. Civic HX Coupe...117-hp VTEC-E lean-burn engine
Civic EX Coupe...127-hp VTEC engine
Both are on page 2 and 3 about trim variant.
2. On page 9 of the brochure
VTEC steps in to take charge. VTEC switches between two different camshaft lobes to manage air/fuel flow. This helps the HX Coupe's VTEC-E system increase fuel economy. And in the EX, its VTEC broadens the powerband.
In recent years, there are a new kind of combination for VTEC, derived from VTEC-E and SOHC VTEC, so called a hybrid version of VTEC. I am not sure if our car actually uses it, but a lot of new Honda's are using this system, including the J30A. So may be this is the case. The engine is still classified as VTEC. It still has the characteristic for higher output but maintain the low fuel consumsption at low rpm. And of course, the hybrid VTEC can't be heard, because it's blended into the mid-rpm sound.(Have you heard of a stock Accord V6 VTEC kicks in? Or TL? Or CL?)
Physically speaking about the VTEC-E, there is supposed to be 1 regular profile intake lobe and another one almost flatten out, and it does not contain a high-profile lobe(so only 2 lobes for each intake). The VTEC engine I inspected does not fit in the case. The outer 2 regular profile for exhaust, and I see at least 2(I am not sure how many because the rocker arm covered it up) intake lobes that are not flattened. Also what I realize about the 2 lobe that I saw was that, the wider intake lobe(the exact middle one) has a higher profile than another one, but not much(I think 1/16"?). So it makes much confusion.
By the definition of fuel economy, I do not believe our VTEC has any advantage than a non-VTEC. Take a look at the 04 Civic brochure, and the LX actually has the same gas mileage as the EX.
Let's check the part # of HX and EX, the camshaft has a different part number, and is more expensive for the EX. If they are the same engine, then everything is supposed to be the same.
Conclusion? One word-confused. By a lot of people, it is a VTEC-E. By some people, it is a regular VTEC. Several people believe that it is a "hybrid" or some references to VTEC-II. And some suggest that it doesn't even fit into any VTEC category(by fuel and by power). But at least, Honda does not have any direct relation for VTEC-E and EX, and they are different(D17A2 v. D17A6).
Any idea?
