Would you buy from Carmax?
I think this topic may have been covered before but I don't remember.
Would you buy a car from them? They have a no-haggle price and they supposedly check all their cars before they sell them.

I purchased my first car from CarMax and then sold it back to them two years later. Both transactions went smoothly. I would certainly recommend CarMax over most other used-car dealerships.

I bought my first car from carmax, in my opinion, they sell their cars overpriced. In 2000, I purchased a 1998 ford escort ZX2 from them with 25,215 miles on it for the sticker price of $10,695. Come to find out later that a brand new 2000 ford escort ZX2 was priced at 13,995. And in 2002 new ones were also priced at 13,995. So I think it was a ripoff. So I wouldnt recommend them. They are nice people though and friendly.

Yeah, they are overpriced. When we were looking for a car for my wife, we looked at the Toyota 4 Runners, and they were old and waaaaaaaaaay over priced. So we were like, screw this.
Carmax is a peculiar form of used car dealer:
They have friendly staff, they offer warranties for their cars, they inspect them prior to sale, and they give that 5 day trial period which is always nice. They also sell there cars at bluebook or a little below bluebook price which can be a good or a bad thing depending on the car in question. Also they are a great place to sell ur car cus they will give you the best price for it. But in my experience with them ( bought a 2000 Jetta and a 2001 civic), there hav been some major and minor problems with the cars they sell.
The Jetta was hell. The radio didnt pick up AM stations and when i looked under the hood, the plastic engine covers was only held on by 1 out of 5 screws. Also, after about a week of owning it, the passenger side window fell into the door and the check engine light came on. Both of those problems couldn't be solved because the parts were on national backorder. One good thing though is that because of all the problems I had, Carmax let me exchange the jetta for my current car, an 01 civic.
With the civic everything was fine except for one problem, my rear speaker's low ends were blown so every time there was a deep bass note, the speakers would sound like they were farting. But from then on, after i got new speakers, the car has been great.
So, in conclusion, Carmax is a overall good because of their customer service but the only thing u hav to do is carefully check ur car top to bottom, maybe take it to ur mechanic so he can inspect it, and then in the 5 day trial period test every bit of th car u bought.

I really wouldnt recommend selling them a car either. 6 months after I had my escort zx2, I wanted to purchase a new car, so I went back to car max and had them appraise my car. They appraised it at $5,000. That is crazy. I bought it there 6 months earlier with 25,215 miles on it, and at this point it had about 31,000 miles on it. They are a ripoff. There was nothing wrong with the car. It was in the condition I bought it in. My mom even complained to the manager about it, and he told her that he would up it to $5500, which was still shitty.
