Perhapos a very loud bang, then Aston Martin techs will call you personally and arrange for you to be towed with a solid gold tow truck. I wish I was rich too.

well then you get towed back to the dealer ship and they charge you 15,000 for a new transmission.... so really its just a Mony making scheme that Aston Martin thought up to sell more transmissions. Genious!!!
Probably the same thing that happens when you take your car out of D and into R while driving.....Nothing...it's idiot resistant enough to not engage reverse at speed.
I know this from having one too many rental cars

yeah exactly iron fist lol... what if a little kid asks, "Daddy, whats this do?" <<click>>
lol i wonder what would happen, if the car locked the tires or what not or had an automatic kill switch lol i wish i had the damn vanquish though!!!!

I can't remember if it was chrysler or GM that had a pushbutton automatic in the early 70's?? I do remember someone that had one. The buttons were on the left side on the dashboard. Pretty cool for the time.
I'll have to look it up one day. In any case, it's like the CVT transmission. It was done in the 60"s but had durability problems. Subaru used it in the justy for a while, and it just kept being improved. Now the civic has one.
These Ideas are old, but they come and go from time to time.
Volvo wants to do away with the steering wheel, and just use a joystick.
They say it works very well, but the problem is public acceptance of the concept. I have to admit, I'm sort of fond of the feel of a steering wheel in my hands. I think we are going to see some wild ideas in automotive technology in the next 10 years.

Yes that's a very old concept. It has been done and was used in Chryslers, I believe... It's cool for display but I still prefer actually pusing and pulling on the shifter. I don't want to push AC, Radio, and drive buttons. I'd rather have a push button starter before I drive button.
I like paddle shifters on a steering wheel. Next 10 years? There are a ton of wild ideas today...

Obviously there is an electronic mechanism that does not allow the car to go in reverse at high speeds. Come on this is a Aston Martin we are talking about. And I am positive the push button's purpose is not to save the effort it takes to shift, instead to look cool

That is kinda slick. . and I'm sure it's nearly impossible to just press the R when you are crusing down the street. However. I think it would be a cool stunt to go 115, nail the brake, and hit the R. hehe. . see what that car is really made of.
