i have gotten to drive a few ferrari's....but they were for valet jobs and i just don't get the full appreciation of a car when i drive it 5-10 mph.....unlike the evo that i drove where i took it 130+
and i really don't think anyone in high school could just walk into a mitsu dealership and ask to drive their 30k car.....

i test drove one at the local dealership. the guy that went along told me "if you don't drive faster, i'm driving back to the dealership." we went for like 10 miles round trip, and he was telling me "go faster through those turns, i want you to feel the responsiveness of the steering... blah, blah, blah..." i swear, if i could have gotten what i owed on the vic, i'd have traded that day. hell, if i could have gotten $2000 less than what i owed, i'd have traded it. (they were having a $2000 cash back thing going on). i swear, those cars drive awesome. got to drive a friend's sti, and i'd seriously take the evo over it. i love that car... the one i was looking at at the dealer was white, and it was schweeet!!! those are incredible cars.

o, and i have driven my boy's boss's racing viper, 6 of his 9 ferarris, his new porsche gt3, and a few of his other exotic cars. i was scared of pushing them though. my boy goes nuts in them. he's currently driving the 900 hp racing viper (its street legal, barely), cause his wife's z71 tahoe got stolen, and she's driving his h2. reason i posted about these cars ies because i saw the posts at the end of this thread, after i originally posted. so there, there's your exotics.

STi: 2.5L engine with higher low-end torque than the EVO's 2.0L
Evo: Higher boost than STi provides better acceleration in upper-half of the RPM band
Watermelonman. . . if the extent of your car knowledge and exposure is largely based on 2F2F regarding the Evo, then you need to get out more. It's a rally-bred AWD car which is best at home off-road. Give it some dirt, gravel, mud or snow and it'll out-perform 99% of the cars out there. Same goes for the STi, for that matter.
Indeed, there is more to cars than performance . . but to discount these two particular cars because they FOCUS on performance is sheer idiocy. If you want the performance they have, but with luxury. . . then buy an M3 for another $25,000 or more. If you want it with just some styling. . . spend another $5,000 or more on the Track model 350Z. But to say these cars are stupid, is stupid in and of itself.
On to the next topic. . . WHY $30,000?
I can't speak as much for the EVO, but on the STi you have the following:
$2800 BBS 17" forged lightweight rims
$2000 or so for the Bridgestone RE070 tires
$4000 (a guestimate) for the Brembo brake package
There's over $8,000 . . . and that's just in AFTERMARKET parts that come stock on the STi.
Then factor-in a 300HP, 300ft-lb 2.5L turbocharged engine, stainless steel turbo-back exhaust, nearly bulletproof heavy-duty 6-speed transmission, all-wheel drive system, Driver Controlled Center Differential, front and rear limited-slip differentials, factory HID headlights, race-tuned suspension, 4-wheel ABS, factory aero kit and FUNCTIONAL rear wing . . . then you're probably pretty close to the mark
. . . . oh yeah. . . rumor has it they come with seats and a steering wheel, too.
lease:And would someone PLEASE tell me why every other thread where someone says "I test-drove this and that" turns onto a pissing contest with everyone else proclaiming what they've test-driven? Far as I'm concerned. . . test-driving a car proves very little. . . and doesn't impress people too much. Now to say you've TRACKED a sports car. . . well, THAT would impress me. Otherwise, most "high-performance" cars are much like every other car on the road . . . since you need a track to adequately test them, not much can be discerned from a simple drive down the street.

damned... i was saying from what i drove of one i was impressed. and with driving it and the sti, i was more impressed with the evo. both are great cars. as far as getting into a pissing contest, i wasn't. dude was saying that it didn't validate you cause you test drove that car, cause anyone can. and that it wasn't unusual for someone to drive one of those cause they are common cars. sheesh, didn't know you'd get so worked up over an opinion. you are the all knowing, sorry anyone spoke. everyone, if you need an opinion, wait for yukonart to give it to you, otherwise, he'd get mad if it conflicts his view, especially on the sti -vs- evo. i never claimed to drive one on a track, nor race one. i merely stated, that in similar driving experiances with both vehicles, i liked the way that the evo performed -vs- the way the sti performed. that is on dry pavement, under everyday driving conditions. which, believe it or not, most people that drive cars use them as, daily drivers, not race vehicles.

I test drove the STi, rx8, 03 cobra and the evo before making a decision on my move. Each had their luxuries.
-STi: I liked it's low-end torque and the 6 speed gearbox. Car has a lot of brute force and it's very monsterous. Although I didn't like the interior much and the overall look of the car, it's surely a beastly one. I didn't seem to like the handling much in it though. The STi would look awesome with a front mount, too
-03 Cobra: One word.. POWER. This car is mean, vicious and did I mention POWERFUL? I decided over this for a few reasons. I didn't like the interior (not a fan of mustang's ins and outs in general) and I didn't like it's tank-like feel to it. It's a great drag car, but it's not what I was looking for.
-rx-8: I was SO close in buying this car. I had the check all written out for a downpayment, my title for my car traded in and everything. Pretty much the last minute, I changed my mind. I still absolutely LOVE this car. Handles great, looks great (the look grows on you), interior is GREAT, very classy car. It's also pretty quick for what it is, just no low-end torque. I needed looks+speed+modability+versetality. I looked at my long time favorite car, the EVOLUTION
-Evo8: Needless to say, I was pretty much set on this car. The power, the handling, the modability to it, the looks, great aftermarket parts already on it from the factory, everything. I don't need to explain much on this but I did have a few gripes. The paint is rather shitty on it. I had it professionally detailed out the *** and my opinion on that changed quicker than I can change my clothes. Other than that, I'm LOVING my car and i'm happy every second that I have it.
Just my input on the "30k class" of performance/sports cars that i've tested. Hell maybe it'll even help someone

PopcornPlaya. . .
Dood, don't think for a second anything I said was directed to anyone in particular. I got no beef with anyone. . . it's just that every thread about test drives usually ends up going down the same train of thought.
If you think I have a biased towards the STi over the EVO, performance-wise, you're dead wrong. I don't know why (other than the fact that I own an STi) people think I have anything against EVOs, or that I think my car is better than anyone else. Screw anyone that infers that from anything I say. I'm giving real-world feedback about two highly-debated cars. Seems everyone wants a piece of someone who happens to own one or the other.
Know what? There are faster cars than mine out there. I'm far from delusional about my car making me any better a person than you, or anyone else. What I can't stand is anyone thinking so self-centered that they presume I think that way, too.
And if ANYONE presumes to tell an EVO or STi owner that they "should have gotten the other one" . . . to hell with them. Both are equally incredible cars to own. . . and there's not a day goes by that I don't feel privileged that I can afford one, and that I can appreciate what it is.
If people don't want some cold hard facts about these cars . . . fine. I'll just everyone talk conjecture about them. . . . because that's about 99% of the talk on the internet about these cars. . . . . by people who've usually never even touched one. . . . let alone DRIVE BOTH.

lease: bottom line: they are both sweet cars, are just about equal in almost all catagories. it all depends on what company you like more, and what style you like more....that's it.......if i had to choose which one to buy, i would flip a coin, they are that evenly matched

I drove in it and was very unhappy, I wouldn't pay 28,000 for it. I would rather buy a nice toyota supra. Very weak turbo. I got a buddy who drives a turbo charged eclipse and it's running 21 PSI and 482 WHP. Thats power.!

Maybe he'll reconsider with the 2.2L engine.
