Top Speed
naw i got a 5 speed lx.. and it won't go past 120.. i think after a certain rpm level.. it won't go any further. therefore u have to have more horsepower, to acheve a faster speed, before u reach 5000 rpm in 5th gear..

thats impossible, my 02 spec-v does 138mph top speed in the cold with AEM cold air intake and relocated knock sensor- so you're gonna tell me that you civic is jsut as fast as my spec-v, im sorry but that is impossible
BTW civic's are drag limited/ governed they cannot reach those speeds unless you 1, increase horsepower by like 25hp or more, and reduce the drag, 127hp stock is not capable of doing that unless you mod/ remove govenor
what is a civic spec-v and where can i get it???
and to answer the other question when the governer kicks in... you will feel it instantly.. the power to the engine shuts off, and you will fell youself slow down to about 115-117.... it usually kicks in in 5th gear at 5,000 rpms...

It kinda scared me when I found out. I was testing what speed I can get to and when I reached 114 it felt like the engine shut off until it dropped to about 110. I thought something went wrong but then I tried it again and it did the same thing I realized it was the limiter. I asked a friend and he said it was the limiter. He says there is a way to re-program it.

Not nessisarily, the civic would just take longer to reach those speeds. so even if the 2 cars have the same top speed one just gets there faster.....
also, by what is it governed by??? the MPH?? That couldnt be because I had mine up to +120 (according to the speedo) and I was running 205/40-17s (4.18% smaller) so my corrected speed was aproximatly 114, but the car thought I was doing 120.... So whats the deal?
civics are mostly drag limited- my friend has gotten one up to 122 with no passengers, but he recorded it. anyways, since the civic is drag limited you would need copious ammounts of hp to compensate for it. plus all speedo's at the speed have about a 4% loos jsut like yours, so a corrected speed for the civic is about 125ish. also, some speedo's my spec-v and civic included have to be recailibrated due to change in tire size, new rims, ect.. if you dont do this you wont get an accurate reading. my speed was measured by a friend of mine who used his police radar gun. thats the only true way to measure your speed
the govenor works by rpm's not MPH. most govenors kick in around the redline, i recall someone metnioning at 5,000 RPMS on here. im not sure if thats true but, when the govenor or rev limiter kicks in there is an instant loss of power and the engins shut itself down until a pre-determined speed is reached. usualy 155.
i apologize for the type-o, there is no civic spec-v. lol

Well if I knew how to re-program it I wold tell you. See, the friend that told me this likes to talk and thinks he knows everything and maybe he just made it up. Im just going to have to figure it out myself if it can be re-programed or not. If i get any info i'll get back to you.

went to 140mph today
What's this rubbish about 5,000 rpm limiter? Max power for these engines is at 6,300 rpm and my rev limiter kicks in at 7,000 rpm. Why would honda limit to 5,000 when they are famed for their fantastic reving engines?
Max torque on the other hand peaks at 4,800 rpm.
Where did the information come from that there's a speed limiter? Mine just seems to naturally run out of oomph at around 138mph (speedo reading) and yes i'm aware of inacuracies and I am running totally stock.
As the top speed occurs after the peak power point in 5th gear you can't expect it to just keep getting faster.
It's not how fast you drive but how you drive fast that matters and although coupes aren't the fastest cars in the world the type R only goes to 146mph ish (only 10mph diff) and i would never get insurance for it.

i'm driving an auto sedan with me and 2 other passengers one of which weighs 200lbs....not saying that i couldnt go faster but it took like 15sec to climb from 100-110 and my friends car was about 500yards ahead of me and they tapped their brakes so i thought they were signaling for cops,so backed the hell off...I'm sure it can go faster but I have no need to,just curious if it would hit that speed.
thats common sense having some fat basterd in your car will slow it down, just think of this how fast can you swim with a fat person strapped to your back????? its physics adding wieght will force your car to work harder to accelerate.
Tell me what you don't like about yourself....

Someone had their shop put his car up on a dyno and they did something to his 7thgen. He as able to get upto 183mph i think. He posted photos of it, but I cant seem to find them right now.
what the hell are yall talking about?? what kind of "special" civic do u have. 140 mph, 183 mph... come on now... there is not a stock civic in the world reaching thoes speeds, on factory tires, suspension, ect... all that is nonsence, and speculation.
My penis is just like all my posts, very very short

I can get my automatic trans civic passed 105 easy (when the highway is empty). But then I lose my *****. It gives me a wrong feeling when I'm going too fast in a Civic; it doesn't prove anything really.
