2005 Focus.... with pics..
So the current SVT bubble has 170HP but they are putting a 150HP engine in it now?
Dont like them, never had, never will. They had a huge recall with seatbelts and something with the wheels. There is a kid with a white ZX3 in my area that has it lowered with white rims and dark tints. It just looks hideous. Even when its clean. They are too high profiled to perform and the new sedans look like an old contour. Let's not mention the cheap interior.

I think they're just making a model below the SVT that has 150hp but uses some of the SVT parts, or at least thats how I read it.
Fords aren't too bad, my friend has had a Focus wagon now for about 3 years with only one recall problem that was fixed quickly during an oil change. Not to mention that those little 'bubble' HBs handle damn well.

One thing that surprised me about the focus is how tall it sits. I washed one as a favor for someone, and I had trouble washing the roof. On my civic sedan (stock height), I can easily get 1/2 the roof from one side and 1/2 from the other. But the focus was so high I couldn't wash the roof at all without leaning on the car a bit.
Just an observation.
Just an observation.
Okay I've been reading thru this post and I find a few things funny. First of all I have an 01 civic ex and I can't wait to sell it. I hear everyone saying that the focus is a piece of **** but yet when you look thru past posts it becomes very obvious that the civic has an overwhelming amount of problems. So how can you say the focus is junk. Then secondly everyone says this and that about american cars but have you looked under your hood? Our cars are also made in the states. The only things japanese about our cars is the name and design. Now as far as the look of the focus yeah I agree it's not the best looking car in existence. Then you take the civic si and the svt focus and the vic gets smoked everytime. I've driven both side by side and quite frankly the focus does everything better than the vic, hands down. Now again I like my civic but let's face it a damn kia sephia can take our cars and smoke em. I love honda but they too are starting to make cars for the masses instead of for the import fans. Unfortunately Honda is starting to get pushed over by the domestics that are actually trying to make fun to drive, low priced cars for people like us THE ENTHUSIAST. Imo honda stopped caring about us and went to the f**cking tree lovers with all these stupid low emission vehicles. So go ahead start flaming
but I'd like to see who can give me a real educated answer to what I've stated. PEACE
but I'd like to see who can give me a real educated answer to what I've stated. PEACE realiability guaranteed by design

but I'd like to see who can give me a real educated answer to what I've stated. PEACE In order to be a real car ENTHUSIAST and a racer, we first have to have the skill and realise that skill and handling is more important than HP. By saying a REGULAR focus and a KIA can smoke civic I assume you mean straight line 1/4 mile race and I assume you purely think HP is the only thing to determine a car's performance. So how can you call yourself ENTHUSIAST racer?
Personally I am just a DRIVER, I am not dare to call myself an ENTHUSIAST racer because I know if I can't even drive at autocorss (don't even need to mention uphill/downhill curves) so I can not call myself a racer. HOW ABOUT YOU?
In a driver's view, civic is still better than focus for reliability and fuel/milage. And in a driver's view, low emission and protection of environment is important. By saying civic is also made in US and should be as unreliable as focus, you just proved yourself you didn't understand the "concept of reliability by design in engineering". If there are something you are unsure, don't you think you should research a bit?
And if you think you are an ENTHUSIAST, then at least you should show us some prof of you performing well in some CURVE involved race. Otherwise, no matter civic or focus, for you they will be the same and you are just like me, -- A DRIVER.
Last time I checked I never said I was a RACER unless you consider street racing. I am a driver just like you. I said I've DRIVEN a focus svt and an SI side by side, I never said the word race in any of my sentences. Also if you are going to say something know what you are saying. When I say enthusiast I mean someone who eats sleeps and breathes the import scene. Go look up the word in a goddamn dictionary. Plus you show me one time that a stock si beat a stock svt. and also you're actually gonna try to tell me that an si has better handling capability than the svt? please. go and drive an svt next to an si before you talk all kinds of ****
hahahahhaaaaa

hahahahahahhahaaa since when dictionary said the word "enthusiast" means sleeps and breathes import????? Do you even know how to compose a text? YOU REALLY HAVE TO RELEARN ENGLISH DUDE!
and the whole thread is aobut REGULAR 2005 focus! Don't come up with SVT and SI crap, don't just mention SVT,SVT,SVT...in this thread we are discussing focus and civic in a driver point of view.
And you keep saying driving SI beside SVT, since you say you are not a RACER, did you TRIED what you said in any kind of semi-formal race? or you just test drive one at the dealer and come up with all the bullshit. Since you said you have EX then I suppose you have 20 times and less practice on a SVT am I right? Then how the hell can you determine all what you said?
this thread is quickly showing everyone how the typical focus owner thinks.... IMO they are just making themselves look even more foolish in this thread.
I like the svtf, and I like my civic, but do you see me starting wars over at the srt forums or the se-r forums? EXACTLY.

yeah man, I just mentioned about some general point of view from a regular driver and talked about advantage of reliability and fuel/milage in a civic. Then that focus's samurai just have to come up with SVT kick SI's ***...appearantly SVT represents ALL focus and the only type of civic in the world is SI...riiight....
everyone has opinions and people will always think what they want. I just think it's funny how one person could make a comment and get a whole bunch of people to start crying like little kids. I didn't say that there's only the svt and the si but even comparing the zx3 to and ex. The zx3 has still more power and better handling than the vic. Like I said I have an 01 civic and I still haven't seen anything amazing in reliability. It is in the shop just as much as any other car. READ THRU THE FORUMS PEOPLE. Did you not notice how many people are complaining about problems? Oh yeah and for Orion talking **** about my little grammatical error why don't you read what you wrote again. Wait I'll quote it for you "since when dictionary said the word enthusiast" Hey idiot how about YOU learn to form a sentence. Oh wait let me help you out. Ready this is how it should read. Since when does a dictionary say that enthusiast means... and so on. Try reading your own writing before you talk **** about someone else. PEACE
ojjr22, for the most part, I agree with you except for Honda's direction. Honda has always been for the "average" people and not only for those who love cars. I would much prefer the path that Honda is taking with their "tree hugging" than other companies' gas guzzling monstrosities that tower 2-stories high and weigh as much as a yacht.
RESEARCH!!!

You want to learn what is reliability? Please go to NHTSA and have a look about complaints on focus and civic.
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...in/results.cfm
research, research and reasearch...please
focus 1026 complaints
civic 360 complaints
I do agree with you Ken in regards to honda being for the masses, but then if they are why do they make fp kits for the civic? Also why have the si if you make a car for the masses. Honda puts ads for this car saying things like rally inspired this and that. You know what I mean. Also a car like the s2000 is not a car for the masses. On the part you mentioned about the gas guzzlers will never change. Think about it you tell me one economical car that can hold 7 people tow a 26' boat and plow a driveway if neccesary. Oh yeah also I need a car that can get me thru 28" of snow. If you can name one then I'll never drive an suv or pickup again. Not to mention all those great parts we order for our econo cars that are shipped to our house in those big bad gas guzzlers. I'm not trying to argue with you either. As for orion go bark up another tree! Stop speaking for both of us. No we are not racers but we are drivers and if you want to tell me that we no nothing about handling then you should check yourself out. You mean to tell me that you couldn't tell me the difference in handling from a ferrari to a civic? GET REAL, just cause we don't race doesn't mean we don't know handling. If you think that then you should go tell that to everyone else on this site!
just a loser

Did you even check the reliability site I sent you?
And just stop using the word "handling" here and there if you didn't even proved yourself in something like autocorss. And yes, I know which group of people in this site actually knows about handling, it is obvious just from the way they talk. However, I am sure you are not one of them.

Personally I don't like Fords, that's just my opinion. That's why I have a Civic and am a member of a Civic site. I have never joined any other car model-based forum with the intent of trying to prove my car is better than anyone elses, or for that matter, any future model of my car to be produced.
Anyways. If you are here to stay and you love CARS in general then fine. But if you are here and you don't like Civics/Hondas then **** off, because you'd be wasting your time.

I actually like Civics. I've ridden in DaveyD's Civic and (other than than fact that it's an auto
) I really like it. A good friend of mine owns a 03 SI, and I simply love that car. From the looks of your post to me, it looks as though you're trying to irk me to saying something about Civics. If you actually read my posts, you would have already seen that. I'm a member of several car forums that I dont own but am interested in. The Civic being one of them. If it were up to me, would I buy a Focus over a Civic? Yes, I did. Would I consider the Civic, yes I made this decision last year. If someone posted a thread on my web site that hated on the Civic, I'd defend the Civic. One thing I hate more than anything is a closed minded car enthusiast.
Well trahma if you read above according to orion we know nothing of handling or being enthusiasts. Orion you talk alot of **** for someone who can't word a f**king sentence the right way. In fact you sound kinda young with the way you word your sentences. Are you even old enough to drive or do you not speak english very well. The comparison to the ferrari is simply to show you that you don't have to be a F**KING race car driver to know what handles well and what doesn't. But obviously you must not be able to read in english that well either! You talk **** about intelligent debates when you can't spell, word a sentence, or read either.

There's a kid, about 50 of them in my city. Their Civic lowered, with dark tint, and rims. Guess what? They're butt *** ugly. Are there awesome looking Civics? Hell yes. One of my favorite local cars I've ever seen was the last gen of the SI. You'll find cars that look hideous in every make and model.
As far as too high profiled to perform, you've never been to an autocross track and seen one go. There are numerous Focus drivers that race their cars in Rallycross. Even more so that run their car on the autocross track.
And since so many people want to talk bad about how the Focus handles, let's compare numbers from a couple sources...
AutoWeek - 2000 Ford Focus ZX3
Slalom speed: 43.70 mph
Skidpad: 0.81g
AutoWeek - 2001 Civic EX
Slalom speed: 42.80 mph
Skidpad: 0.80g
Car & Driver - 2001 Ford Focus ZX3
Skidpad: 0.81g
Car & Driver - 2001 Civic EX
Skidpad: 0.78g
I did find that the Civic EX seems to maintain a lower 1/4 mile time which surprised me, I thought that the engine was smaller than what it actually is. Remember these are baseline numbers. Don't ask me to compare the SVT vs. the SI because I guarantee the SI will lose.
[the following isn't directed towards Whelan]
The Civic for someone looking for a car with proven reliability is a sure bet. If you want to talk emissions, the 2.3L PZEV engine is a faster engine than the Zetec (pre-2004 focus) and the emissions I guarantee will compare to that of the Civic. However let's talk insurance on a car that's one of the nations most stolen. Trust me you don't want to do that. In my eyes, both cars are very good options for someone in the market for a car in the $11k-$18k range. Both have their ups and downs. If this wasn't the case, we'd all be driving the same car.
you guys are *******s hahaha
if he didn't like civics why is he here???
My friend has a ZX3, Id like to see what the 05 would look like, but in those pics posted the grille needs adjustment, like the looks of it. But its deffinetly an improvement.
