When Should I change Engine Oil?
When Should I change Engine Oil?
I have 03 Civic, and I am currently livin in Canada.
I am not too sure when to change my motor oil since I ride alot.
I ride about 4000km per month and I am at 12000km rite now.
sould it be same as the manual says? I had a oil and filter changed by my self at 4000km and that was my last oil change.
any ideas?

when to change your oil actually depends on its viscosity. I am a 3500 to 4k person myself because I want my engine to be very well taken care of but, in the army we never changed oil in our engines even after years and years of the same oil. They did run tests on the oil to test the viscosity. That s all that really matters in the end.
Also do a search or as I say in another forum I am a member of "google it"

Oh yeah forgot to mention that. If you use Penzoil, change it every 200 miles or so. Because Penzoil is ****. If you have Valvoline or any other kind of synthetic oil that's half decent, I would recommend 4-5k
All you guys are idiots. You should only change your oil when the oil light comes on, when the light starts blinking and you hear a "ding ding ding ding" sound. If you change your oil before the lights comes on, you are wasting money.

what a jackass....why not change your oil every 4 grand? Oil is cheap and it keeps your engine clean. you cant judge the cleanliness by the color

i just changed my oil at 5000 miles.
this is the most conservative nubmer in the manual.
i think Honda knows our cars best, and has no reason to lie to us.
jiffy lube has brainwashed the masses with their marketing to think we need oil changes every 3000 miles.

think of it this way...what does honda have to gain if you change your oil every 10,000 miles? loads of $$ actually.
by leaving it in for 10,000 miles, you can cause unneeded wear on the engine, but still be able to pull a lot of miles out fo the car. You'd think "wow, this car has lasted over 100,000 miles before it died. I'm going to get ANOTHER honda!" now add in how many civic owners there are, and wham! loads of profit for such a conserative car company.
