What Car Should I Get?

sorry..... Just checked out the mazdaspeed protege looks like a sweet car!! I was gonna ask the same thing. The EVO is way out of the price range here, but why the OZ? What a piece of garbage. I've driven one, and it was significantly more sluggish than my civic ex. Take a look at the Ralliart lancer, it's better than the OZ. Still not my flavor though, but whatever drives you.

230 peak horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque, and is matched to a five-speed manual transaxle. SRT-4 now also includes a limited-slip differential for greater traction, as well as performance-tuned suspension,

Here's what I understand from reading up on the neon:
The ATB and LSD are two different animals. The limited slip differential constantly monitors your wheels' rate of turn and transfers power back and forth to compensate and keep the power continuously flowing. The ATB is similar to the LSD: "The Quaife Differential powers both drive wheels under nearly all conditions, instead of just one. With an ordinary open differential, standard on most cars, a lot of precious power is wasted during wheelspin under acceleration. This happens because the open differential shifts power to the wheel with less grip (along the path of least resistance). The Quaife, however, does just the opposite. It senses which wheel has the better grip, and biases the power to that wheel. It does this smoothly and constantly, and without ever completely removing power from the other wheel."
In other words the ATB compensates for wheel spin, but doesn't help in terms of grip in the corners. An LSD will sense over or understeer, and compensate. This is what the ATB is lacking which is why the neon fell behind in the handling portion of the road test competition Road and Track did. Again here are the numbers:
Mazdaspeed slalom 70.3
Neon SRT-4 slalom: 69.0
To me it really depends on what you want. If you want a certain style, then I really don't know why you're asking us, because you can make your own decision. If you want straight line speed and raw power, then go Neon all the way. If you want superb handling and auto x characteristics, then get the mazda. It's all your preference. Of course I'm going to be partial to the mazda, because of the type of driving that I enjoy, but the Neon is a true performer no doubt. Especially on the drag strip, but hey anybody can learn to drag race a car, it takes real skill to handle the twisties, and that's why I made the decision that I did.

Well hey, from what I understand about the two, I may be wrong. I get lost in the verbage. But it seems that you like the Neon so why not go for it? And from what I understand the neon will destroy a WRX. But then again, I would rather have a civic over a Hyundai tiburon even though it has a V6.
It's all your preference. If you like the Neon, and don't mind driving a Dodge, then hey go for it. It's one bad *** car, and you'd probably smoke everyone on the board here. Well almost. We do have Yukonart with his sti...
By the way, expect a dealer mark up now the dodge includes the new ATB.

I'd say the MAZDASPEED Protège because it is well balanced and has a turbo stock. It's great for everyday driving too.
The Neon if you want a quater mile racer, but I'm still not sure about it's quality because it still is a Dodge.
The GTi is nice too. It's tuned more toward luxery so it can be a good everyday car with slight racing...

Haha what kind of race though? By the way street racing is illegal.
Hey I just read this and thought it was kinda sad:
The Si feels far more at home in the daily grind than on the track, offering all the build quality and refinement Joe Consumer would expect of a Honda. The little subtleties, like the consistent feel of all the controls, the smooth takeup of the clutch, and the flawless fit and finish stand out even in this crowd. The hatchback bodywork is also endlessly practical. But for the enthusiast driver, there is, sadly, little soul. Ignore the racy looking seats and it's clear this car was built for someone else. Like the Mitsubishi Eclipse, the Si has gone off in search of different buyers.

Fawk all that entry level ****, and just get a G35 coupe
Yeah, I know, I can't afford it either, but that's why I'm still driving a 97 CX hatch...because I will oooo yes I will be driving it next year
Um, what was the question again???
I would get the Z-24 Cavalier....
Think about it! You could park it ANYWHERE and not have to worry about it getting stolen. Or you could go playing bumper cars with shopping cars and not care what happens to it (it's worthless once you drive it off the lot anyway).
