launching in a/t
torque braking, or whatever its called
stand on the brake in D, shift to neutral while standing on brake, brake will go down more, shift back to D.
now you got max brake pressure.
rev engine until you feel the slightest movement forward.
then you let go of brake, floor the gas, and GO GO GO!!!
its a lot better than all out flooring it, and only wears out the torqueconverter.

you go do that...
if you wanted to drag race, first of all
you made the mistake of buying a fwd car
then you made the mistake of buying an auto
finally, you made the mistake of getting a civic

put shifter into drive.
press on the brake, hard.
rev the engine as much as you can, it will eventually stop.
release the brake and you launched.
tires might spin. but when you do this, you generate a lot of heat, and heat is very very bad for your transmission, so after you do it, put the car in neutral if possible, turn on the a/c after and let the car idle for a few mintues in between launces.

A long time ago I made a post called "Guide to Drag Racing in an Automatic" or something like that. Search for it.

You dont neutral drop an auto....thats the most retarted thing you can do. Just put it into D and hold the brake with your left foot and rev the RPM's up to about 3000, quickly let go of the brake and slam the gas. Its an auto so you dont have many choices. You can get the most out of it this way or you could go and break it being stupid.... ctx66 has the idea..... Last edited by Captain; Nov 13, 2003 at 01:09 AM.
lol asking for race techniques in an auto is like asking whats the best way to chew your food. lol no matter what you do your times will suck so if I was you learn to autox which will still suck. Or just make your car look really good and drive around real slow. lol
like what most ppl have said here...just step down on the brake and at the same time step onto the accelerator....when its time to go....let go of the brake and push hard on the accelerator.....oh yea by the way ....keep doing these and your tranny will end up in the garbage...thats what happened to me
...on my second tranny now and just driving normal.....cant afford another tranny....

I never said manual civic could or couldnt beat anything. My point was DONT RACE AUTO unless you got like a big block 350 in which case go for it. lol I just read an article in import tuner about a guy who got a Subaru STi Auto specifically for drag racing and what he does is puts it in second gear (easier for the brakes to hold, they might slip in drive)....rev's it to about 5000 rpm and drop it into drive and i guess the car launches just as hard as a manual!
