actually all that would be needed would be a glare shield on the bulb. there are plenty of cars that use the same reflectors for both halogens and HIDS.
850 is too steep for me. if it were 500 I would.

If they put HIDs in the OEM Headlights... I wouldnt buy em... If there was an option for HIDs with High quality Hella projectors, then i would easily pay 800$ for the upgrade

Honda won't be offering HID's in their ENTRY LEVEL car for quite some time. Neither will Toyota, Chevy, Saturn, Ford, or any of the other companies that sell cheap econoboxes like civics and corollas. There is a reason they cost $16,000 for a "loaded" model: they cut corners.
Besdies, I remember reading an article several months ago that compared light output of HID's and regular Halogen bulbs; the halogens outperformed HID's in every category!! In theory, they would be better, since "white" light is closest to daylight, but fluroscent lights are supposed to be better for you since they are closer to daylight as well, but they have been proven to cause worse eyestrain and fatigue than regular lightbulbs.
HID's used in rally cars are another matter....they are insanely bright to illuminate the tracks at night....those are far better than halogens, but they are too bright for road use; so in the mean time, for light output, OEM halogens are better. If you want your car to look "cooler" then spend $600 on aftermarket HID's.

Mystic3030,
When you say that HIDs won't come in econoboxes, because they are the base model, you're wrong. Ford has already offered them in the Focus, and Mazda is introducing them in the new Mazda 3, coming out very soon. I believe that HIDs stand a chance in sport compact cars such as the Honda Civic EX, Civic Si, RSX, Focus SVT, Sentra SE-R Spec V, and Dodge SRT-4. The reason why I think this is because if the price were right, $650 or so, like Mazda is doing, then sport compact enthusiasts would put down the money in order to have factory HID. I know that I would!

At any rate. . . I couldn't see increasing the cost of an economy car by 15-20% JUST FOR HIDs. Pointless.
My STi comes with them, but it had a $31,000 sticker price to begin with. Makes more sense.
