Interesting but the "R" designation goes back into history. When the 1965 Shelby GT 350 Mustang came out there were two types sold S's and R's. The R's were modified more than S's but the R's could be modified more to help the performance out just like the ITR. The ITR is not made as a full race ready car but it sure is at a higher performance state than other FWD sport compact cars.
