Nissan Mortor Corp. has announced that they will not be launching the much anticipated Skyline GTR until as late as 2007. The car was first shown some three years ago at the 2000 Tokyo Motor Show. Nissan's design chief, Patrick Palata conceeded that seven years was a long wait, and said that work was well underway for a sellable model. "People will have waited a long time for the Skyline so the car must offer a significant breakthrough." Though there is no word from Nissan as to what this breakthrough may be.
Well at least Nissan admits that the VQ35 they are marketing as a "skyline" is not a real skyline, and that the true GTR will be released at a later date. Anyone know if this one will use some type of ATEZZA drive train like the previous model?
The thing is, the G35 IS the Skyline, it just isn't a Skyline GT-R... In Japan the Infiniti G35 is called the Nissan Skyline, just like previous generations this has always been the case, there has always been a base Skyline, and then the GT-R model follows a few years later. This is the case here, the G35 is the base Skyline, but Nissan just hasn't developed the production GT-R... yet...

i heard just before the G35 got here that it was to be our skyline, however, that would mean that the skyline has been downsized, i mean the 350Z/G35 are a good bit smaller than the R34 was

I dunno if you guys have seen this, but I believe that this will likely be on the streets of Japan as the new "R35." I haven't seen any pictures of this concept in a long time, but I think that we will see something very similar. I'd venture to say that they will just call it the Nissan GTR like what they used to do in the old days, back when it was first released. They'll just keep the VQ35 badged as the "skyline" and the new R35 as the "GTR." Just my opinion, as I've followed this topic for a long time. Short Article

The pic is basically a concept variant of the G35. There were some other pics around somewhere of it looking more like an R series skyline.

Yes you are right I have seen articles of the new R35, they have pics and specs out already too. But these of course are not the final specs. They say that they are going to beefup the motor to a V8. I don't think the skyline will ever hit the US market, but I do know of one place where they do sell skylines. That is motorex in Cali, that is the only place where you can buy a skyline throughout the whole US. And as a matter of fact they do sell a couple of skyline sedans. They are of course all rightside drive and they do orders too for a brandnew skyline R34 GTR. It cost about 98,000 for brand new and 78,000 for a used one and I believe that is for a 2002 model or 2001. check them out at motorex.net or something like that
Such a ripoff considering in Japan it's about equal to 25 to 30 K brand new. In dollars I mean. Motorex is the only one who does US legal conversions and has the crash test ratings, so they charge ungodly amounts for them.
