I've driven the auto RSX many times. I have to say that it is SLOW! CIVIC 5spd vs RSX auto = CIVIC should win with a good driver.
CIVIC 5spd vs RSX base manual = RSX should win if both drivers are equivalent.
How bout 03 CIVIC SI vs RSX base model? I think the SI would win b/c it seems to be a smaller and lighter car, although they share the same engine...

Northwesthonda, RSXclub seattle , and Ephatch went to the dyno on 2/8/03 The Dyno was a great time. There was Rsx base models,Type-s, 7th gen Civics, and of coruse Ep3's.
The Type- s most were stock with eather SRI, Catback, and some had HonData Chip.
I'll Start with the D17 Civic Base 1.7-liter, 127-hp VTEC® engine
This car had CAI, and DC TCS Exhaust. After all 3 runs the numbers were.
115 Hp and 108 Torque
Next is the RSX BASE Automatic. 2.0L 160-hp DOHC i-VTEC Engine
This car had SAI, Comptech Cat Back Exhaust. After all 3 runs the numbers were.
HP= 127.3 and torque= 115.5
Next is the Base RSX Manual 2.0L 160-hp DOHC i-VTEC
completely stock. After all 3 runs the numbers were.
HP= 133.2 and torque = 123.0
Next was the RSX Type -S 2.0-liter, DOHC i-VTEC™
This car had Comptech Exhaust, SAI
HP = 175.6 and torque = 126.6
Next was My Ep3 Base Civic 2.0L 160-hp DOHC i-VTEC
My car has my Custom SAI intake
HP = 136.9 and touque = 120.1
Next was a Ep3 Civic 2.0L 160-hp DOHC i-VTEC
This car had SAI, and Midpipe.
HP = 142.8 and touque = 119.1
Next was Accord V6 This car had No2, Underdrive pullys and Fukk Comptech Exhaust.
N/A - Max power 170.8, Max torque 167.0

Ive taken a base model Stick RSX with my 2001 civic.
I have 4-1 HP header, no cat. Exhaust 2.5 inches. Cold Air Intake.
Now I perhaps can even take the TYPE S with my mods now!

Actually, it was 115.8 HP
I was actually pretty pleased, given the stock numbers it was supposed to put out.It was amazing how little some of the mods on the RSXs actually helped. And in some cases, they seemed to be hindering the dyno figures for some of the owners.

All I know is, my friend Ken had the blue RSX base auto, and was very disappointed with his numbers. . . . . . . . . so much so he now drives a black Type-S.

Jason had the AV6 and a 1995 BMW 540i that he dynod . . . traded both in for his Evo. Now that I'm getting the STi next week, we're going to have to start having dyno days somewhere that's got an AWD dyno.
lease: When that happens, I'll post results.
my friend just got a civic type-s FAST car... dont say **** how a civic can beat it, cuz it definatly will not.. you need to do a lot to a civic to come close, a civic SI got creamed from my friends type-s.. so saying a EX can beat it is just wrong....

The RSX-S fairly quick car, I've had the chance to ride in one, it's also a very nimble car... BUT probably wasted in the hands of the "racers" out there who live their life a quarter mile at a time.

RSX Type-S is fast.....LOVE the gearbox
dealer I went to let me play with it for an hour.....alone =D
edit: I don't think anybody said the RSX Type-S could be beat by a Civic. I sure can't imagine how that could happen, unless the Type-S driver REALLY sucked......

I dont konw, Ive beaten many a "faster" car. SRT-4's, Integras, WRX's, Sentra SE-R Vspec II's, Corvettes, Porsches, BMWs, Mercedes, Mustang GTs, Camero SSs, RX7s (All 3 gens), Supras, Audi TTs, Miatas, S2000s, Z cars of vairious years, I've even out run a DeTomaso Pantera. Did I race any of these cars in a straight line? No, I dont judge a car/driver by how fast they can accelerate. So what if the RSX has a better engine, Its the driver that makes the car any way. At least for my type of racing.

You guys must be joking!!!!!! An base RSX can be a base civic any day. Now its the drivers skills that matter. If you have people with rsx losing to civic its because they cannot drive or have little experience with drag.
I beat a RSX type-S again today, he kept chasing me but never beyond me, even couldn't push me. We were driving in a 70 max road and my speed is 140, so as he should on the same speed as me, for me I don't think my car can beat a type-S, I think type-S is a fast car but it is so depends on the driver, or the sense of the driver doesn't want to race.
a) base RSX weights like 5-10 lbs less then the SI, so there is no difference there.
b) stock vs stock auto base would beat a stick shift EX. Stock vs Stock...when u bring mods into question...mod for mod the base model RSX would demolish the civic.
c) to the guy that "raced" the RSX...u didn't..because if a RSX raced u u'd be dust. To me no 7th gen civic is worth wasting gas(even tho' I don't street race, but if I did), becuase ur cars have no potential...old civics...u don't know what they have...with 7th gen...even with a turbo...a guy at the track only could pull off a 15.2.
d) Vics can't beat a base RSX...because it has more torque, more displacement, and a better powerband...the only car thye might beat is the auto RSX...but even with auto it will take all it takes from the civic driver...while the RSX driver can just mash the gas.

It was one of my friends, we ran that about 3 times that night. Had him try different start techniques each time, just mashing the gas, brake-stand, and rev in neutral->shift in
He didn't have a chance any of the times.
His was a 2002 RSX Premium Automatic
Mine was a 2001 Civic Sedan DX-G 5spd (that's the non-VTEC)
They were straight drag runs from 0 to 120km/h
Speeds past that, like when we are running on the highway, he'll out accelerate me no problem. Below that however, the RSX auto is a dog.
I don't think the race showed so much the difference in power between the two engines as much as it shows how bad autos are.

damn... I remember hearing something like Vics can beat an RSX, but I heard ONLY if the driver of the RSX sucks.
Anyways.. you are paying about $2-5k more.. it better be faster.

But, an Ex Spec. Edition really isn't any cheaper than a base cloth RSX 5-speed when it comes down to it.

you guys can look at stats all you want. facts are that a manual ex WILL beat an auto RSX. i have seen it many times. i have an auto ex and have raced my friends base RSX auto numerous times. i definately did not win but he beat me by 1-2 car lengths every time.

Make that Two of us... and then add in WRX's, SRT-4's, a few corvettes, and a smattering of other "Faster" cars...
