whatever you are hearing or feeling, is not there, its just where the peak torque is made.. and where the engine is at its peak performance...
even in a nonvtec car you get those sorts of sounds and feelings... cause its designed to feel like that

no man. you can really hear it. and it makes a huge difference. my car doesn't have the same pull at 3000rpm as it does at about 4500 when it engages. and the engine sounds completely different. you ever driven a CL/TL Type-S?
EDIT: Peak torque is at like 2500rpm in my car (maybe 3200). Peak HP is right around redline. i hear the VTEC engage at about 4500. not peak performance for torque or HP.
