BMW does that too... The M3 SMG computer records if the shifter has ever been set in "Race" (fastest shift) mode... and if the car has ever been set there, your warranty is basically gone.
Its really bullshit though... do they really expect people to buy a sports/almost race car and think no one will race them?

I sure wish my car was newer

The EVO is a race car! If you can't race it, wtf good is it? Who else would buy it? I don't think my eighty-two year old grandma is going to buy it.
If I ever hear about a car company doing that, I will never buy one of their products.

haha..man what a bunch of idiots..the freaking commericals talk about how the acceleration pushes you to the limit and all that bs but once you buy it
"Hey lets keep it safe here guys..under 75"
"Hey lets keep it safe here guys..under 75"
damn, that is BULLSHIET!!!!. I would be madd pissed if I found out they had someone working at the tracks watching me race my car (if I had an EVO). But, isnt it like given? If you buy a EVO, obviously you're looking for speed to race it!!!!
. If not, you might as well have gone with the regular lancer. I hope people do something about this to the mitsu company.

Honda knows the civic is too slow, so they think no one will race it. But yeah, any car dealer won't warrent breakage due to racing (if it is proved).
Honda does this too!
Its called ECU!!
It keeps track of how, when & for how long you rev the car, so when your clutch goes out because youve been grinding all over second and take it to the deale because"Its cool, its under warranty" they run a diagnostics, not only to find out what is broken but to find out how it broke!
several people on ephatch.com have complained about this, they've got caught on this and they're left chit out of luck.
However, I think that the dealer are messing with him about having pictures it could be true but I seriously doubt that... and how they found out where he was racing? thats kinda weird so I dunno
But all in all, Is he out of a warranty: You bet his gf's sweet *** he is
dumass!

Anyone else finds all those postcard sized evo ads in sport compact car? They keep ranting about 0-60 in 5 seconds. Now they could get mitsu or the dealership on a number of things.
1) False advertising: You cannot say claim to sell a car that does 0-60 in 5 seconds and then penalize owners of using that function. A manufactuer can't provide something that an owner can't use. Its like buying a laptop ans saying "Yeah the A key is there but if you use it, the warrentys voided".
2) Unaware: They say that it is only stated in the owners manual that the warrenty is voided if the car is raced. You can't make up the rules as you go. As you don't get an owners manual until you own the car.
3). Definition: If you took an evo to a track and babied it down the track running a 22.3 @ 50 could they consider that racing simply cause it was at a track??
4) Entrapement: by definition this means pushing someone to do something they wouldn't normally do. With their aggressive advertising campaign highlighting accerlation. You could argue that you wouldn't have raced the car if mitsu hadn't put the idea that the evo is that fastest thing on 4 wheels in your head
Im sure there are all sorts of odds and ends to this story but those were the main things i saw.

I dont think its necessarily the fact that they are cracking down on import enthusiasts, I would think its more of the cracking dowm on these dumbasses who race their car and then bring it to the dealer to fix whatever they fudged up while racing. I think that if you have the ***** to race a car then quit bitchin because the warranty is voided.
Besides if its in the user manual, its laid in stone. everyone should read their user's manual when they buy a new car, its common sense IMO
If you think about it they are truying to help, it is those people who race their car because they think that the waranty will cover everything who drive the cost of the automobile industry up.
ok thats it

If it was a well-made car, there wouldn't be any issues of anything breaking after a race. It just goes to show that Mitsu cars can't stand up to abuse if the dealers are so afraid. The only reason they're marketing it as a race car is because of that fast and furious movie. Everything comes back to that movie...even the stupid rice section at pepboys and TYC advertising. I say wait for the warrenty to expire, then start turboing and enjoying the car. That's what I plan on doing.
No, I think that honda just realizes that if anyone wanted to make their Civic fast that they would have to void their warranty with some kind of forced induction.

If you paid the money for the car you should be able to do what you want with it. I agree that it is marketed as a race car but if they are that bitchy on the warrenty i don't think that it is a race car. False advertisement and a car that can't handle the abuse are at work here and i think doing crap like this is a pissy excuse to get around it.
