the motor is underrated it puts out 200 hp to the wheels. they didnt want it competing with the new VR6 for sales. but yes they are sweet, all that for 22,000.

I don't know about that. My friend has one in yellow. Fit and finish is superb, interior is just unbelieveable, but he gets spanked by Preludes's and GSR's on a regular basis. They are easy to fix up, a new chip will net over 20 to the wheels.

My girl wants to get a GTi 1.8T badly, as do I.

EuroTuner had a nice cover story of taking the 1.8T and VR6 and figure out which is better. The 1.8T came out ahead in almost every test except when the road was wet. I would love to get one myself.

Not to mention the video of the Eclipse, GTi, and Evo VIII racing on the freeway. GTi smoked them both times. Damn, I love that vid.

I love the GTI 1.8T But did they work out all the bugs in them? I heard that they had a lot of problems with them.

I think VW got the look just right. That will be a good used car to buy about a year from now when someone who has done a few upgrades wants/needs to sell their baby.

civicdude will become famous soon enough
I used to work for VW.....The VR6 is insane...and the 1.8 is nice too. I wouldnt buy a vw thought. They have plenty of electrical problems and other quirks still....

whats your point all three cars run low-mid 15's. you buddy either has an auto or cant drive as well as others. maybe you didnt know that most turbo cars dont put out the same power even in the same model. case in point SRT-4, the boost pressure is commonly between 13-15 with some as low as 12. but yes, they have been known to dyno 200 hp stock, not all will but its not a rare occurance either.

I absolutely love VW's, especially GTi's and the old Corrado's(they should bring them back). I think when if I get another car, as opposed to an SUV, its gonna be a GTi.

My buddy can drive actually, most of those cars also run about low to mid 7's 0-60. The 20th stock runs 0-60 in 7.4 (http://www.vw.com/vwnews/articles/20030416_jetta.htm) I have two 1/4 tracks near my house, Sears Point and Sac. I have seen many, many GTI's, and STOCK I have never seen them break a 15.2. Now I have seen a few modded Golfs run consistent 13's, they a very good motors and are easy to mod. They are just slow from the factory.

Now if it made 200 HP to the wheels a low 15 is pathetic. 200 to the crank I can believe. 200 HP to the wheels is around 240 at the crank. The GTI weights 2916 lbs, making 240 at the crank would net about a 14.2 - 14.4 1/4 mile. (http://www.fantasycars.com/derek/quartmile.html)

Whomever told you they make 200 hp to the wheels (occasionally) is either fulll of **** or uninformed.

Don't forget - they have a 6-speed. I might buy one if I can scrounge up the money.
