it would be cool, but it wouldn't make a difference since the car has no power to use.

it basically is. I've driven a Honda Prelude and a TL Type-S with sportshift and I didn't like either one. You're better off mashing the gas if you want to downshift. As for upshifts, if you're reving pretty high, the shifts aren't very smooth either.

in other words......

REAL manual transmission >>>>> Tiptronic/Sportshift

note: that statement applies to MOST cars

Well- this isnt my thead but its going nowhere- he just wanted to know if its possible to get a triptronic on his auto- I dont think he wanted to hear "Get a manual" etc.

This is the problem this forum has been having- stick to topic and just dont be an ***. He had a question about a part he wanted- if you dont like it- dont respond.

I personally have an auto and would be interested in a steptronic and if its possible.

My moms z3 has it, basically what its a manual without a clutch. You have a normal D that you can stick it in and leave it alone but you can also bump it over into shift mode. Then you pick you gears. Shift up- you bump the shifter up, shift down- you bump the shifter down. It displays what gear you in on the instrument panel where your mileage is (at least on the Z3 and the Protege 5).

lemme know if your still confused.

it's not exactly a bolt-on part so i'm fairly sure that you'd have to tap into your ECU or whatever controls the shifting. And if for some reason you get the setup to work, you don't necessarily need a new shifter. Since the shifting would be electronic and not physical, I assume you could even use 2 buttons, or even paddles

Those things shift so slowly, you're better off just leaving it in drive. I've been in and driven a fair number of those things, and they all suck. When you want to shift, basically you just tell the computer you want to, and it does it. It takes just as long to shift, but now longer since the computer needs the input from you, rather than just from itself.
It's not like SMG or Ferrari F1 where you have to shift the gears or else... its just a way to make an granny tranny seem less granny like, but it sucks. The only one I've ever heard that works well, is Porsche's... but you get what you pay for for $85000.

The only way I would think this would even be semi-worthwhile would be in the Civic with a turboed K20A that makes 400+hp. Otherwise, you're just one more kid doing unnecessary work to a Civic. At least body kits and stuff make it look better. This is just something to waste your money on.

Thats because all the "slapsticks" are still automatic transmissions with torque converters. If you want a SMG (sequential manual gearbox), Ferrari F1, Toyota (whatever they call it on the MR-S), or the BMW SMG II is the way to go.

Even the Porsche tiptronic is still an automatic tranny with buttons for shifting.

In the case of Porsche, you don't get what you pay for (unless you want a real automatic).

My Civic LX is an auto and frankly I don't see the point of any manual intervention... it shifts fine on its own, holds the gears long enough, etc. If I need manual intervention (I Dont) I just yank it down... same thing as a tiptronic does, although mine has no seperate gate or fancy buttons.

My experiances with Triptronic transmissions has been dissapointing. So far there have been only 2 companys that have in my opinion done it "OK". Audi and BMW. (I've never used a Porsche Triptronic). even the good ones have worked/felt like an automatic, ok for a little sport driving, but Horrible for race applications.

about a year ago I talk to level10 about their shifttronic, you control with your shifter, but you get like a panel with an on/off switch to turn it on and off and you could also select the gears from there...

by the way, unless you get some more tranny work done you will loose even more HP from your transmision

like already said, I think our auto tranny's shift properly...only thing I don't like is that it does not have "1", just 2 and D3, but, my civic is not for racing
