A lot of people I talk to at school hate Civics. They say that Civics are pieces of crap and that they're too weak to amass to anything. I'm interested in knowing why people would feel this way about a car that they wish they had. :-x Anyone else ever get any of this "civic hate" stuff??

I have always loved them, my first car was a vic and I stayed with honda through the years. Now I traded in the family crv for another vic, I missed driving one to much. Sad part is could have bought almost anything but stuck with the vic.

Maybe people hate them because you can mod them to be almost anything I dont think you can mod any other car like ours.

Back in highschool, whenever someone would get asked what type car they had and replied honda, for some reason the asker would start talking aggressive. What's the need to defend yourself against an economy car? Then they would ultimately lead up to "that's fine. spend a million dollars on your shitbox". What makes them think everyone with an import is going to modify it to hell?

it's because of ricers who put on led washers and huge wings and then go around praising their car like it's the best in the world.

I never hated civics but I also didn't like them. The reason was becuase of what has been stated above "ricers". I still think there are better looking cars than the civic and I still think the civic is overated. What I love about this car is the gas milage it gives me.

When you think of rice the first thing hat pops in most peoples head is civic.That is why they hate them. I used o not like civics untill I saw som that were not rice and ten I relizied that they are sweet and can be fast, faster than the v-8s and that is fun to know.

Stop. Rewind. I can understand you being upset about the reliability thing... but Civics are weak. Our cars have 125hp - for the top model that isn't an Si. Even the "performance" model only has 160. That's still only good enough for a power to weight ratio of ~17. Seventeen sucks. Well, it's better than the ~21 a Civic EX has.


They wish they had? Let me go tell my friend Billy who drives a Corvette with 400hp that he's just jealous of my Civic and THAT'S why he calls it slow. Maybe I should go tell my friend Brandon who drives a BMW 328i that he's jealous, too. C'mon, get real - someone who bought a Mustang GT for $28,000 isn't going to sit in his garage and think "Son of a bitch! Why didn't I buy a Civic? I think I'll go make fun of those kids..." Stuff like that doesn't happen. People buy cars for different reasons. I'm sure that even though Stang drivers wouldn't mind getting better MPG, they don't mind getting low MPG coz they've got 4.6L V8s.

There are many reasons that add up to the "I hate Civics" thing. I try to be pretty objective when I watch people with that response. Reason number one- there are ALOT of them. Reason number two- The ricer, nasty paintjob, tricked out, huge wing, slammed with dubs thing. Once I made up my mind to get this 03 coupe alot of people made faces like they were eating something sour. Now that I have it and have dressed it up tastfully these same people say "nice car". That reaction that you are referring to is a predisposition towards the "Civic" name. It's up to you to keep your car from adding to that prejudice.

I have to agree. There are far better cars out there than Civics. Why the **** would the individual who modifies a potentially faster car LIKE something slower?

Why would someone like a car everyone puts more energy into looking fast than actually making it a faster car?

It's front wheel drive.

No displacement - no torque.

But you're right. It's those Civic owners who believe their **** doesn't stink that need to wake up. Just last weekend or so I was coming back to WA from BC. . . and the border patrol dood asked me how much power I had under the hood (noting the gauges, wheels, blah blah blah) and I said it's just a show car. He asked again, smiling. . .I said a whopping 130 HP or so. . . . and he laughed. I laughed back and simply stated that if I wanted something fast and powerful, I would NOT have bought this car.

With honesty like that, who can argue? He didn't even ask me to declare the 12 bottles of liquor I bought on the way back. . . duty-free is the way to be!

Face it, Civics make great second cars. Mine gets me to and from work every day and looks good doing it (lowered, skirt kit, other class stuff, no rice). It sounds fast and is fun to drive, but I take it at face value on the performance front. When I want to whoop some ***, I break out the '69 Mach 1. 400 hp plus another 150 hp on tap in the trunk. Hmm, now that I think about it, I can add more in spray to my v8 that my 4 cylinder makes at full boogie. No problem, the civic gets 30 mpg and it's fun to drive.

I don't believe there's a definite answer. There is no god-given made Honda or ANYTHING period and you can't expect everyone to like it. A lot of people like Hondas and a lot of people hate them simply because so many people express how they like them broading the range of opinions put on it.

It's no different than any other car whether it's fixed up or not. Sure Honda makes quality cars but there are a lot of people who like what Honda doesn't have whether it be torque or a decent affordable RWD car. What about a car with AWD? (Their SUVs do not qualify) The fact that they make JDM AWD cars doesn't qualify if they're not in the states.

Some people talk so much **** about Hondas I just have to go ahead and join them despite the fact that I love mine. It can be really funny. You can talk **** about any car if you hit the right area.
