do your research. they upped the HP and performance of the Altezza before they brought it over as the IS300. All the "things are better in japan than in U.S." is just ricer bullshit. May be the case sometimes, but not always, and not in this case.

not all things in Japan are better than the ones in USA... but wouldn't you know to own an altezza? barely no one has a toyota altezza in the states, it would be something very unique to own, even though it might be slower than the is300.. i'd still take the altezza..

I dunno, I saw quite a few TRD Altezzas when I went to Japan, and they're pretty sexy.
There were a couple modded ones, but the TRD still looked better, IMO.

Altezza is a 2 Liter screamer, the IS300 is a 3 Liter NA Supra engine. They put a 3 Liter in the IS3 b/c there is no way they were going to have a 2 Liter Lexus. The IS200/Altezza was supposed to bring back the AE86 days for Toyota, but it came out to be an overweight sedan.
Altezza(Japan) or IS200(Europe) - 200 hp I4(3s-ge)
IS300(USA) - 215 hp I6(2jz-ge)
the IS300 is slightly more weighty. The IS300 is a heavy NA supra (like someone already said). The Altezza or IS200 is the same chassis as the IS300, but has a smaller less powerful engine but is also lighter. The altezza has a red top 3s-ge which has dual vvt-i (why dual i have no idea - V ariable V alve T imeing with I nteligence). It also has higher compression than the 3s-ge's used in NA celicas(5th and 6th gen) and a few other toyotas. Basicly the difference is only the Engine(15 hp - 2cyl - 1 liter) and a little weight(off the front).
Personally I would ratther have a heavy supra than a heavy celica. I would go for the IS300.

The Altezza would handle better on a road course, as it has a better F/ R weight distribution. 15 hp isn't much of a difference. A 6- speed would actually cut down the power advantage, also. If you were 2 offer one of them as a trade- in for my 'vic, i'd get the Altezza.
You may want to look at the HKS carbon- fibre body Altezza

The Alezza is better on a road corse. The IS300 has better Drag potential with the 2jz-ge.
It's a hard decission.

For extremely high HP applications you would want the 6-speed. Several people have this swap already. Toyomoto offers the swap, and possibly Powerhouse also.
