better gas consumption

for some reason i got better gas mileage when i have my airconditioning on all the time...anywhere from low to middle...i've only checked up on it this past week...both filled up to the top...with ac i had at least 100kms more for the whole tank...
anyone else can confirm this?

Wow...That sounds backwards to me. I've always noticed my mileage decrease with the AC on.

Since you're in Canada I guess it's not mileage though. Kilometerage? lol

Depends on your speed.
The faster the more gas you will use with the A/C on.

^^ I don't know if that's quite true. I usually get around 450km a tank around town, but I was on the highway a few days ago, drove to Banff, and had the A/C on all the way. I ended up with a little over 600 km for the tank. I can't figure it out either, but hey, it works.

Ok. I can kinda confirm this. I drove from Des Moines Iowa, to Minnesota. On my last tank with the A/C on about half, I got 42 MPG. The only engine mod I have is a K&N Drop In Filter. Kinda weird. I wonder if it has to do with the ethonal gas I bought in Iowa.

The a/c usually robs the engine of power therefore consuming more gas. So in your case

ak can only hope to improve
I've tested using and not using A/C a couple of times.

75% highway .... A/C eats about 10-15% of my MPG.

one thing tho .. if you \have your A/C off and your windows down .. you will get WROSE mileage than your windows up and A/C on a lower setting. The windows down causes drag like a crack *****

The A/C may be cooling off the engine or fuel into the engine.
A cooler engine runs better, using less fuel on longer trips.

I was wondering about the AC thing to but i think it cools the engine
because when you have the ac or fan on the fans in the engine are on a blowing in th engine and intake so maybe it circulates the air better
in you r motor or something like that .

If you have A/C, start your car and turn it on for 2-3 minutes and let it cool the interior. Then open the hood. It is surprisingly cool. Was at Honda today and noticed it.

well...it could as well be that the engine with the ac on is being loaded better for its optimal efficiency rather than without the ac...i mean i don't change my driving habits at all if not i probably rev the engine a little bit harder with the ac and i still get better mileage...testing again this week and its about the same as i was getting the last time i used ac all the time...
how do i confirm this...well i've been putting my mileage on my gas receipts so i know when i need to fill up when the gas light turns on...
cheap? nah...its more that i'm waiting for the gas prices to go cheaper rather than filling up with the price high

honda engines are more efficient at higher rpms therefore more heat to the motor so theres a flaw to what you posted

LOL. Million different theories in this thread...whos right?? hahaha

A/C = reduction in fuel milage (definitely) contrary to you guys' findings... if you were to run your car on a dyno jet thingy w/ cruise control for an hour with a/c off and a/c on, i bet you the run with the a/c on will use more gas.

At least in this case the milage doffrence is due to being on the highway...and not around town.

As for getting better milage with the AC on...There is another factor there. Either you were driving with the windows down, or maybe since the AC robs power you tended to drive less aggresively since there was less power to play with. Or..and this is my persoanl theroy...you filled up with better gas (as in no or less additives) the time you got the good milage. The AC doesn't cool your engine...so the whole the engine is running cooler argument is right out....if anything it would cause your car to run warmer due to more resistance being placed on the engine.

Agree with above. without a doubt, big decrease in gas milage and a hotter engine!
If theres one thing about honda that sucks, it their A/C.

I know. Seriously, they do suck.. I have to have my A/C on full blast in the heat of these Southern California days.. and ITS BARELY enough to keep you comfortable.. sometimes it seems like its not even on. (even on full blast) On the other hand, I find Ford Air conditioning to be VERY strong and cold even on the lowest setting...
