K20 vs. K24

Care to clarify? I know much about the K20a series motor... In general I am talking about the K20A2 (RSX-S, 200hp) and the K24 (whatever one is from the new TSX, also 200hp) Why would Honda produce a larger motor, a 2.4 liter, that has no performance increase? I maybe way off because I'm not sure of basic concepts but that makes no senese to me.

I think the 2.4 has more TQ. What do you mean "no performance increase." It's not always about HP.

Because it has 20 more ft. lbs of Torque. It's a bigger car, so it needs some more pull. And it only revs to 7000... which is a little more appealing to people who don't want to ring there ears or interupt their cell phone calls to pass people.

that's an awesome explanation!

just give it some time and there will be performance/aftermarket parts for them...it's the b series all over again. the k24/20 hybrid that hondata made, made something like 20 more hp and tq throughout the powerband, but top end almost stayed the same......

Yeah, I dont think the American public will want a really buzzy 2 Liter on their Acura TSX sedan.... but let me put it this way, I would say the K24 for the TSX producing 200HP is really good b/c the Accord Type-R also produces 200HP but with the RSX-S engine. I rather have the slightly bigger engine with more torque for everyday use than have the engine rev up to 4000+ just to get decent go. (I might be wrong about the Accord-R power, could be 220)

The K24 from the TSX would probably rival the capabilities of the H22A. Someone has already mounted the bottom end to the K20A3 Si engine. Displacement ownz jOO.

FYI, the Accord Euro R does not have the Type S engine, it has the K20AR engine from the DC5R. It is 220PS (which translates into 217HP).

All I can say, from personal experience, is that the K24 is a hell of a nice engine. My wife's '03 CR-V will pull my Civic off the line, everytime, and it is AWD and weighs about 6-700 lbs more than my Civic! Of course, the K24 in the TSX is even better, as it revs higher and has a more advanced VTEC to make another 40hp over the CR-V version. It would be an awesome motor to swap into an EM2, let me tell you. I heard on another thread somewhere here that Hasport is working on this very swap? That should be sweeeeeeeeet

Don't underestimate the K24. When all is considered, I think the K24 > the K20A any day of the week and twice on saturdays.

the swap has already been done, and it's also been done with a k24 block, and a k20a2 head. the k24 makes more tq yes, but not very good top end. the k24/20 makes about 20 hp and tq throughout the power band, but same top end as a tuned k20a2....hondata has already done this as i mentioned before....

correct tuning is a frankenstien? Although finding a home built motor with correct tuning is probably about as rare as seeing frankenstien...it's not "also known as" . Or did you mean a frakenstien with correct tuning owns?

yea but if you read the article it says their goal was to get the maximum amount of torque out of the combo.

the engine wasn't ment for horsepower, if they wanted a all motor, a k24 can probly make 300 easily with higher compression and headwork.

its either this engine or a k20a for me

If you mean N/A it's far too early to tell. That engine hasn't even been on the street for more than 6 months. Same goes for it's "top-end weakness."

Actually I had noticed this, but I did not see any reference to the fact that it compared the K24 with with an RSX head with a Supercharged K24 with an RSX head. Furthermore, it appeared by the tone of the rest of the post, no one else was aware either.

Lol.. So if I can get the k24 block for like say 600-800 and a rsx head for around 700-1400, then brain do you guys have a area of price range for interested persons? I didn't want a full k20 swap becuase it is moderatly fast, but a k24/k20 would be good i bet. and cheaper.. just need to find out from hasport everything that is needed.

Maybe in about a year I'll be one of the first htown franked 7gcs.

Hey braing if you could pm me some info about the mounts for the k24/k20 swap then I would greatly appreciate it, and also possibly keep me posted on what is needed for the swap if you guys are working on or complete the frank swap.

Thanks again,
Craig

youll have to beat me to it, im in htown too.
lol j/k

but i am saving for something special, but by the time I get the money up, there will be something newer and better out.
probably a 2.5 by then.

My chicks Nissan 2.5 S kicks *** on top end, and it is a big *** 4 door, so a 2.4 in our cars would murder plenty of cars. I would want LSD though. (Thats LSD the differential, not the mind-expanding fun juice)

I have been scraping up for this for some time now(well not exactly this, but something...) and I just hope that the aftermarket picks up on the K24 now that its in the accord and TSX.

BTW......What about clearance for a turbo..How tight a fit would that be since the exhaust is on the other side? I've never taken a close look under the hood of one so I dont know if its more or less room back there, and then in a Civic? I think the engine bays are pretty similar between the civic, rsx, and crv. Dont know about the insight.
