New member new civic

Just picked up a 98’ civic for $400, runs and barely drives 😆

I’ll be working on fixing it up to use as a daily driver

the car was seriously neglected for many years

things it needs;

- power steering pump
- rack and pinion
- tie rod ends
- ball joints
- shocks/struts
- half shafts
- valve cover gasket
- radiator fan
- a lot of body work
- oil pan gasket
- 3 drive belts
- timing belt
- will also do dizzy and tune up but it doesn’t need it.

Looking to complete majority of these sometime this week besides body work.

also looking for suggestions on any specialty tools for this car and any known problem areas like things that commonly break.

looking forward to being here and driving a civic for the first time.

That's a really long civic.

Post some pics. Sounds like it could be a neat little project.

Make sure you buy OEM timing components if nothing else. That's crucial.

😂 oh yeah I meant ‘98. That would be a very long civic. Yeah I generally try to only purchase OEM parts. Always stay away from cheap anything. Just means I’ll probably do the job again sooner than I think.

I’ll take a picture today if I find some time. I have to do my timing belt on my other car first before I start the Honda.

If nothing else, you seem to have the right idea about the quality of work you want to do. Aftermarket (sensors, mainly) don’t work well with Honda’s so it’s a shame when people come on here bashing Honda because they cheaped out on a job.

Makes sense. Kinda the same with other brands. You honestly get what you pay for in the end.

Any Honda specific tools that I should be picking up?

I have $30,000 MAC tools set but you know specific things to Honda. I remember touching a ‘05 did the timing belt and I needed a Honda crank hold tool.

The crank holder tool is about all that comes to mind (not sure if the 6th gens have one too or not). I’m not joking when I say you can tear the entire car down with just a regular socket set

Good to know. I’m used to using a lot of t-socket and e-sockets to work on my car along with regular socket set.
