Hello guys. I want to buy a new car. Civic 99 1.8. What do you think about this engine and do you think it looks alright? Do you see something bad on it? The guys wants to sell it for 1700€, what do you think about the price.

Not a lot of European users on this site, but it doesn’t seem outrageously expensive to me. Not sure what the legalities are in your country but that would be a great deal where I’m located where because there are no inspections. If you have inspections, you’re more than likely to fail due to it not really being up to spec emissions-wise compared to something like a d14, but if someone did it, I’m guessing you’ll be fine.

It looks to be a GSR (B18C1) swap. They’re awesome engines. How does the rest of the car look?

Well, we have inspections in our country. The guy said the engine was very well taken care of. He was replacing a lot of stuff for new. He gave me a list of stuff that he exchanged. It looks well from the outside, it is in a really good shape if I take into count that its a 22 year old car. It has barely any rust, only small two spots. I can send you more photos from the outside.

Well, assuming it’s passed before, and it’s within market value of the rest of the civics (because I have no idea what they’re worth), I’d say it’s a good purchase.

Those European civics look pretty sharp. I really like that one.

Yea it has passed before. I also have between like 1,000-2,000€ for repairs and maybe some upgrades. Are there any things I should look out for?

I don’t know anything about the European civics, but I do know the B18’s.

See when the timing belt was last changed (should be within 7 years or 100k miles). Cam seals like to fail but it’s a 5-minute job to replace. Other than that, they’re bulletproof engines when properly cared for, and they’re still reliable when they’re not.

Would you be able to provide the engine code? I’m almost positive it’s a B18C1 but I want to double-check. If it’s a B18C5, go and buy it right now.

I also just realized that the B18’s came factory in European civics. Disregard almost everything I said regarding the inspections. I thought it was swapped.

Why is the B18C5 so much better than the B18C1?
