Coolant drain and fill

I’ve got a 2000 Honda Civic LX. It has the D16Y7. I was planning on doing a coolant drain and fill and wanted to see if anyone had a good guide on this.

On a 2000 Civic do at least 4 drain and fills cycles a day or so apart using Prestone all make and models Yellow coolant Yes youl be fine no need for oem coolant on your 2000 civic Your fine. make sure its not super hot before loosening the bottom drain rad plastic white wing nut though carefully turn it counter clockwise using your fingers if that dont work use pliers but be carefull turning it its made of plastic Once loose let it drain then take off the coolant reseviour bottle by unscrewing the top pull out the hose stick your 2 fingers in resevoire hole and pull up the bottle for a wash after your done slide the

resevoir bottle back in its holder and refill it after your rad has stoped draining re-tighten the white plastic wing screw and fill rad with coolant then with rad cap off step inside your car and slide the heater control to the heat side with rad cap off start the engine and let it run until you see the coolant slowly rising to come out when it does cap it off. Your done drive it, checking coolant temp gauge should read just below half way on temp gauge if that passes ok. drive it for a good day or 2 for proper coolant circulation then repeat hole process 3 more times and your Good for the next 3-4 years

Re: Coolant drain and fill

I agree with brags but going to add a bit more for the final drai
1) raise front end of car on jackstands as high as possible (radiator neck above engine).
2) set interior climate control to max hheat with fan off
3) (optional) use a funnel or spill-proof kit to prevent coolant overflow from radiator neck.
4) keep an eye on both the levels for radiator and reservoir and fill as needed during bleed process
5) bleed for roughly 20 minutes or until radiator fan kicks on twice.
6) monitor radiator and reservoir levels for the next few days.

Service manual states Honda Genuine coolant (blue dye). I usually use Pentofrost A3 (blue dye) which has identical specs to the Honda Genuine coolant.

Consider as well if the life of the hoses is done, so you can swap them since you are already in there doing this.
