Master Cylinder / Soft Brakes

Automatic 2010 Civic EX

Trying to solve my soft / spongy brake problem. Did several times 2 person manual bleeding but brakes still feel too soft. If I pump it or hold pedal half way down for a sec first and then push, the pedal feels harder and stops better. After watched many YouTube videos on spongy brakes, majority say to bench bleed or replace the MC. I tried bleeding the master cylinder first. When I removed the brake lines, the brake fluid shot out in a steady stream. Based on the YT videos, the fluid should only slowly drip and not steady streaming out. I figured the MC was bad and bought a brand new one. To my surprise, after I bench bled it and removed the hoses, the fluid also was streaming out like the original. Installed the new MC anyway, bled the lines and also use scan tool to bleed ABS but brakes are still soft. Now I am doubting if my original MC was bad.

Question for the group is, has anyone replaced or done a bench bleed of the MC and when you remove the lines, does the fluid shoot out or slowly drip?

thanks
