Rep Power: 0 Civic 2000 DX Steering wobble when parked
Hi,
My steering wobbles/ shakes (play) when it is parked. There is no problem with the steering or control while driving and the car is very responsive to turning. Both (L+R) the tie rods (inner and outer) have been replaced recently ( less than 5000 miles).
The wobble was small 2-3 years ago. Could it be due to a bushing or something in the steering column and can be a simple fix?
Thanks in advance,
Cheers!

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Ah ok, I think I get it. Thanks.
Get under the dash, find the universal joints in the steering shaft linkage. Make sure the joints don't have any free play, and make sure the bolts are tight where they are clamped to their shafts. Hang on to the last joint, wiggle the steering wheel, make sure there is no free play in any part of the column that you can't see.
If no free play is found that way, then any free play must be originating in the rack and pinion itself.

Yes,
I tried this: " crawl underneath the dash, wiggle the steering. I could feel the wiggle go down all the way to the foot board".
Is there anything else I should/could check?
Thanks for your time!

The goal right now is to figure out which part has the free play (free movement). The steering column and shafts?
Or is the free play inside the steering gear itself?
Once you figure out where the free play originates, then you can figure out what to do about fixing it.
